It's "...SOMETHING TO BE" #1; Rob Thomas Debuts at Top of Billboard 200, Makes Chart History

NEW YORK, NY -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 04/27/2005 -- Melisma/Atlantic recording artist Rob Thomas makes chart history this week as his first solo album, "...SOMETHING TO BE," debuts at #1 on the Billboard 200 album chart.

This marks the first time that a male artist from a rock or pop group has debuted at #1 with their first solo album since Billboard introduced the chart 50 years ago. "...SOMETHING TO BE" also ranks as the #1 digital album of the week and the #1 album on iTunes in both the U.S. and Canada.

"...SOMETHING TO BE" makes further chart history as the first album released exclusively as a DualDisc to hit #1 on the charts.

The first release by a superstar artist to be available exclusively in the new DualDisc format, "...SOMETHING TO BE" contains the full album on the CD side and more than 20 minutes of exclusive video material on the DVD side, which also includes all 12 songs in 5.1 multichannel surround sound.

Thomas is currently celebrating the release of "...SOMETHING TO BE" with a sold-out, cross-country solo concert tour, including a stop tonight at New York City's Irving Plaza.

In addition to his tour dates, Thomas has an extensive slate of activities underway to herald the release of "...SOMETHING TO BE." One highlight was a rare invitation to perform on two consecutive nights last week on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno."

The chart-topping premiere of "...SOMETHING TO BE" was driven by the success of its first single, "Lonely No More," which ranks at #2 with-a-bullet on the Hot AC/Adult Top 40 charts, and has hit #1 in Canada. The acclaimed companion video clip is #1 this week on VH1's "Top Twenty Countdown."

World Premiere Today via AOL First Listen; Debut Solo Album, "SOMETHING TO BE," Due April 26th

NEW YORK, NY -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 02/01/2005 -- Melisma/Atlantic Records has announced the release of the new single from Rob Thomas, entitled "Lonely No More."

Written by Thomas and produced by Grammy winner Matt Serletic, the single is making its world premiere today via AOL Music's First Listen - available at www.aolmusic.com and AOL Keyword: Music - and will impact Pop and Hot AC radio formats on February 14th. "Lonely No More" is the first track from Thomas' eagerly anticipated debut solo album, "SOMETHING TO BE," which is slated for release on April 26th.

One of the most distinctive vocalists and accomplished songwriters in contemporary music, Thomas has earned a string of accolades - both for his work as lead singer and primary composer with matchbox twenty as well as for his collaborations with other artists. In June 2004, the Songwriters Hall of Fame presented Thomas with its first-ever "Starlight Award" - created to recognize a songwriter in the early years of his or her career who is already making a lasting impact. He has earned 13 BMI Awards, including both songwriter and song of the year, and he was named Billboard's Songwriter of the Year two years in a row.

Thomas has penned a remarkable string of chart-topping hits, including matchbox twenty's "Push," "3AM," "If You're Gone," "Bent," "Real World," "Back 2 Good," "Mad Season," "Disease," "Unwell," and "Bright Lights." In the process, matchbox has earned the distinction of having had more #1 hits and spending more weeks at #1 on both the national Modern AC and Adult Top 40 charts than any other artist in history.

Thomas' smash collaboration with Santana, "Smooth," earned Thomas three Grammy Awards. He has also worked with the likes of Willie Nelson, Mick Jagger, Marc Anthony, and Bernie Taupin. Combining all of his projects, Thomas has contributed to sales of some 75 million records.

Rob and his wife Marisol have established Sidewalk Angels Foundation, a non-profit organization created to aid those in need in and around America's big cities - working with various charities to assist people who are destitute or homeless and get lost in the system; those who cannot afford proper medical care; and animals that have been abandoned or abused. Sidewalk Angels Foundation takes its name from the lyrics to Thomas' solo recording, "A New York Christmas," first released in 2002.
