CHIHULY: The Nature of Glass
Through May 31, 2009 / Throughout the Garden
The Desert Botanical Garden is pleased to present the
Garden-wide exhibition by renowned artist Dale Chihuly. The exhibit will
feature new and unique works of glass artfully located throughout the
Garden. Dale Chihuly is known for his innovative glass sculptures, and
his work is immediately recognizable for its grand scale and vibrant
colors. Chihuly’s spectacular creations are found in more than 200
museums worldwide including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, London’s
Victoria and Albert Museum and the Smithsonian American Art Museum.
Garden exhibitions of his work have been mounted at the New York
Botanical Garden, Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, Atlanta Botanical
Garden and the Royal Botanical Gardens at Kew. This is Chihuly’s first
exhibition in an outdoor desert environment.
Members: Members will enjoy unlimited Garden admission based
on their level of membership. Members will need to make

Members will be able to purchase additional admissions for their guests
at the cost of $12 each.

SPRING BUTTERFLY EXHIBIT IN THE MARSHALL BUTTERFLY PAVILION

The exhibit features lush gardens full of flowers that are a
butterfly lover’s paradise. Hundreds of butterflies surround you;
some flying and others perched in sunny locations, to allow for
butterfly encounters that delight visitors of all ages. You will
be greeted by many species of North American butterflies including
Painted Ladies and the regal Queens. There are special display
areas featuring butterfly host plants and a Discovery Station where you
have the chance to see our scaly-winged friends up close.
MARIPOSA MONARCA

Agave on the Rocks, the Garden’s hippest fundraising event. Groove
your way through the Garden by the light of your glowing margarita
glass while listening to the Valley’s hottest Latin funk bands.
Take a breather from dancing to sample mouthwatering cuisine provided by
more than 15 of the Valley’s premier caterers and restaurants.
Tickets must be purchased in advance and will not be sold at the

DINNER ON THE DESERT
Saturday / April 25, 2009 / Tickets for this fundraising event begin at $500 per person.
This sell-out event begins with cocktails, music and a
fabulous silent auction in Dorrance Hall and on Kitchell Patio. Dinner
and music under the stars follows on Ullman Terrace with a fast paced
live auction featuring one-of-a-kind items. Guests then conclude the
evening by strolling to the grand after-party on Boppart Courtyard with
more dancing, bountiful desserts and cordials. Proceeds from this
fundraiser support the Garden’s mission. Reservations are limited.

FLASHLIGHT TOURS

Nights in the desert are anything but dull at the Desert
Botanical Garden. Experience a magical twilight adventure with the
Garden’s summer evening Flashlight Tours. Flashlight Tours are
held every Thursday and Saturday evening during the months of June, July
and August. All tours begin at 7:00 p.m. Flashlight Tours
are free with Garden admission and reservations are

Garden’s very own pumpkin patch, where each day children ages 12 &
under can pick their own free pumpkin. Take a hayrides out to the
pumpkin. Children can enjoy face painting, the Amazing Bale Maze,
balloon artistry, pumpkin decorating and carving demonstrations, and
much more. There will be a baked goods market by Fabulous Food and
a Fall Harvest Market, where visitors can purchase fresh produce such
as unique pumpkins, gourds, and chili ristras.
DIA DE LOS MUERTOS CELEBRATION

Día de los Muertos is a joyful holiday when families honor
their deceased relatives and celebrate the continuity of life.
Visit the Garden to experience this traditional Mexican holiday.
Celebrate with delicious Mexican food and pastries, live entertainment
such as a Ballet Folklorico, mariachis and the Calacas. Fun family
activities include marigold seed planting creating paper flowers or
papel picado (paper cut-outs) and a Frida Kahlo activity. Local
Latino artists will demonstrate and sell Mexican art and curios in the
Garden’s Mercado.

In celebration of Native American Recognition Days the Garden
will host a festival dedicated to Native American culture.
CHILES & CHOCOLATE FESTIVAL

Alluring aromas and flavors will fill the air during this
culinary festival. See hot and spicy chiles roast before your eyes,
sample delicious chile and chocolate products from local vendors,
purchase unique Southwest gifts, and enjoy cooking demonstrations.
