From the mind of Rich Hopkins, co-founder and guitarist of the
Sidewinders/Sand Rubies, one of Arizona’s most accomplished rock‘n’roll
exports, comes The Whole Enchilada: The History of Desert Rock, Tucson, Arizona 1978-1994
Tucson's
seasoned cowboy stoners and alienated young punk rockers have created
their own distinct desert-tinged sounds. The Whole Enchilada
documentary explores the scene's roots and philosophy through
interviews, images and the music itself, focusing on 1978-1994 and
inspired by a compilation project of the same name curated by Sand Rubies guitarist Rich Hopkins.
The Whole Enchilada is a short documentary produced by Sand Rubies guitarist Rich Hopkins and directed by Maggie Smith which
explores the roots of Tucsons own desert rock music. Exclusive
interviews with seasoned country rockers like Bob Meighan and George
Hawke are interspersed with Tucson alt-rock legends like Dan Stuart (Green on Red), Billy Sedlmayr, and Howe Gelb (Giant Sand). Add in never-before-seen footage from legendary The Pills, wild child Suzie Caruze and Naked Prey and you begin to get a feel for this fun and original short documentary film.
