Sony BMG Music Entertainment Announces the Release of 'ELVIS - THE COMPLETE '68 COMEBACK SPECIAL'

Deluxe 4 CD Set Commemorates 40th Anniversary of TV Special 4 Hours of Music Including Never Before Released Recordings

Available August 5, 2008

In June of 1968 Elvis Presley saved his career and made the best music of his life. These accomplishments are attributed to the legendary "ELVIS" TV Special.

The Special which was sponsored by Singer Sewing Machines was the first time that Elvis had performed in front of a live audience in 7 years. Clad in his trademark black leather suit Elvis performed for hours. The edited 60 minute version aired on December 4th 1968 on NBC. It was the network's highest ratings and the season's number-one rated show. The "ELVIS" Special was so successful not only for NBC but also for Elvis' career that it is more commonly referred to as the infamous "'68 Comeback Special" and has become a major moment in music history.

On August 5th, Sony BMG celebrates the 40th anniversary of the legendary Special with the release of a deluxe 4 CD set entitled "ELVIS - THE COMPLETE '68 COMEBACK SPECIAL."

The deluxe package includes the entire "ELVIS" TV Special including 103 songs on 4 CDs -- 20 which have never been released before to the general public as well as a 32 page booklet with detailed liner notes, photos and memorabilia.

The Elvis '68 Comeback Special CD is another incredible treasure trove of footage documenting a high point of the King's career and a milestone of televised musical performances.

Taped and broadcast in 1968 after Elvis had seemingly abandoned live performing in favor of a movie career, the '68 Comeback Special was a remarkably intimate show, Elvis singing his old songs on a small stage, often alone, surrounded on all sides by a rapt audience. The show's numbers fall into three general categories: the black leather stand-up shows, in which Elvis performs solo on stage; the black leather sit-down shows, in which Elvis jams with former bandmates Scotty Moore and D.J. Fontana and others; and big production numbers, often overdone and now looking as dated as any other 1960s variety show.
