Sabino Canyon Tucson ArizonaNo matter what time of the year, the adventurous hiker, horseback rider or backpacker can slip away off the beaten path into the shadow of the Santa Catalina Mountains.

There are dozens of trails which lead from the main road along the river. There are several spots to ideal for picnics and swimming.

The canyon actually begins high above the slopes of Mt. Lemmon, and winds down a canyon of lush cottonwoods, flowering plants and refreshing swimming holes. Majestic saguaro cacti dot the mountainsides.

Sabino Canyon is open 24 hours a day. The canyon itself has been closed to private vehicles since 1978. All vehicles must be parked at the entrance. A day use fee of $5.00 is required, or a $20.00 annual recreational pass can be purchased at the visitor center. This pass is good for a full year from month of purchase. The pass should be placed on your dashboard when entering the park. For more information on passes to Sabino Canyon, call the Visitor's Center at (520) 749-8700.

The shuttle is temporarily out of service. Pets are not allowed in Sabino Canyon, although service animals are permitted.

Sabino Canyon Recreation Area does not close the gates. However, the bookstore and visitor center are open seven days a week from 8:00am - 4:30pm.

Catalina Ranger District

The Ranger Station and Visitors Center is located on the northeast corner of Sunrise Boulevard and Sabino Canyon Road at 5700 N. Sabino Canyon Rd., Tucson, AZ 85750. Office hours are 8:00am to 4:30pm, Monday-Friday and 8:30am to 4:30pm, Saturday-Sunday. The phone numbers above are staffed every day of the year, except Thanksgiving and Christmas.
