(10/11/04) Hello, I am Camille Abelow, current age 17, daughter of Dr. Stephen P. Abelow. My sister is Alexis and my brother is Nicholas. It's so great to find a website on my family! I barely know any of my relatives, so it is great to learn about who else is in the Abelow family. DanceKid032@aol.com

My name is Lucy Bucan, I'm from Baku, Azerbaijan, former USSR, I live in US, Michigan since 1992. Sorry for all confusion about Joshua Abelow. Here is all story. I found an ad in the Russian Internet site, it was posted by Angelina Davidovich from Chernigov, but since 1995 she lives in Israel and I'm only helping her. She's looking for her father's two brothers, who left for America before 1917. Names are unknown. Angelina's father name was Isaac (1901) and he was the youngest of eight children in the family of Abelev Leib and Dweira. One of Isaac's sisters name was Genia, she came in America in 1912 in the age of 18 to join her brother Jascha (Sascha) Abelew, who lived by 1912 at Brooklyn, New York, but I wasn't able to locate his manifest in the system. But I've found a manifest of Louie Abelow, who came to America in 1909 in the age of 19, but Gender is Female, I'm not sure it's a mistake and real name can be Louis or it's an additional sister, Angelina doesn't know about. Angelina also remembers her father Isaac did talk about sister Hana, who took care of him when parents passed away, she was humpbacked. So Jascha, Louie, Genia, Hana, Isaac, are 5 kids from the same family, and it was 3 more Angelina doesn't know anything about. Now with all your help I trying to find any J.Abelow and L.Abelow who lived in New York in 1910 or 1920 with father name Leib and mother name Dweira. I don't know the way to find it. Thank you very much! Sincerely, Lucy. lbucan@yazakina.com

I'm an Abalo, my name is Alicia. I live in New Jersey, where most of the Abalo family lives. that and Pennsylvania. we are of spanish heritage, so im assuming ur talking about the same Abalo heritage, Email me if ud like to know more Notouchie7@aol.com

I have a few interesting pieces of information for you, which you can add to your site. First, it is interesting that you note the ABALO name as connected with ABELOW. The computer at the Diaspora Museum in Israel has linked ABELOW with the Spanish name CABELOU. Of course, it is not 100% accurate. I presume the theory would be that the Abelows were thrown out of Spain (or fled) during the Inquisition, and that they made their way to Eastern Europe and then did not stay that long, since my understanding is that many of the the Abelows came to the US in the late 19th century.

My grandfather, for example, was born here in 1911(ish). Also, I happen to have an extensive famiily tree, although it was probably last updated in the 1950's. I was always told that the Abelows were all related, and that theory has yet to be proven wrong. By the way, I think Robert Abelow was a founding/senior partner at the (rather large) law firm of Weil, Gotschal & Manges. I happen to be an attorney and live in NYC. Look forward to hearing more info. ROSS ABELOW RSABELOW@aol.com

Another message from Ross: 1. I have a family tree of the Abelows that is on 20 some odd pages and when placed together is about 20 feet long. I do not think it has really been updated in 30 years.

2. It is interesting that you wrote about a possible Spanish connection, since the computer at the Diaspora Museum in Israel (as of 10-11 years ago) claimed that Abelow probably came from Cabelou, which is definitely Spanish. I always assumed, that if the computer is correct, that our ancestors left Spain during the Inquisition and made their way across Europe.

3. As far as I know, all Abelows are related.
