With her 8th studio album, Sophie has teamed up with collaborators old and new, including long-time studio confidantes such as Biff Stannard [Kylie Minogue, JADE], Hannah Robinson [Annie, Ladyhawke], and Ed Harcourt, as well as new musical partners like Nile Rodgers, Sigrid, and MNEK. New single “Stay On Me” is a disco-propelled pop anthem about a blissful long-term romance that is the perfect final introduction to Perimenopop. The music video was filmed in South-West Ireland with Robbie Ryan [Poor Things, The Favourite] alongside long-time friend and collaborator Sophie Muller, marking their 19th video together.
Sophie says, “‘Stay On Me’ is a celebration of being with your person and knowing—trusting!—they only have eyes for you. It’s romantic and has a little nonchalant bop to it. I always picture a 60’s dreamscape scene when I sing it. It brings out the flirtatious and soft focus feels, with a heart full of joy and desire.”
Featuring previously released tracks “Freedom Of The Night,” “Relentless Love,” “Vertigo,” “Taste,” and “Dolce Vita,” Perimenopop is a jubilant, bold, and confident album and is the record Sophie was meant to make seven studio albums into her 25-year career. She says, “I truly find it fun getting older. There is so much joy in knowing yourself better as you age, and that’s where you find my kind of pop.”
The glittering anthem “Freedom Of The Night” signalled a new era for Sophie, and the Radio 2 A-listed single saw Sophie back together with Sophie Muller on the music video, which celebrated the renowned “Murder on the Dancefloor” video. Sophie ended 2024 with a performance of the track as part of her BBC New Year’s Eve Disco show.
With an impressive musical career that spans over an amazing 25 years, Sophie has achieved five Top 10 albums and eight Top 10 singles, with hits including “Murder on the Dancefloor,” “Take Me Home,” “Get Over You,” “Heartbreak (Make Me a Dancer),” and many more. Most recently, after featuring in the epic final scene of Emerald Fennell’s filmSaltburn, Sophie’s beloved 2001 hit “Murder on the Dancefloor” saw a huge resurgence, garnering a Platinum Certification in the US and 2x BRIT Platinum in the UK, climbing to #2 on the Official UK Singles Chart, #51 on the Billboard Hot 100, #10 on Billboard Global 200 Chart, Top 5 on Billboard Hot Dance/Electronic Songs Chart, and #1 on the Spotify Viral 100 Chart, and amassing over 13 billion global streams across all streaming and social platforms. It was the 16th biggest song of 2024 and the biggest song of 2024 for a British female artist. Not to mention, she performed the track in New York’s Times Square on Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve. Earlier this month, Sophie was honored with the “Best Female” Award at the Nordoff and Robbins O2 Silver Clef Awards.
Sophie has recently toured sold-out headline shows across Europe and the U.S., supported Take That, Nile Rodgers, and The Human League, and appeared at festivals across the world, including performing with Peggy Gou during her set at Glastonbury, following her own set on the legendary Pyramid Stage in 2023, and most recently with Royel Otisduring their set at Reading Festival this year. She embarked on her biggest ever UK headline tour to date in May and June, taking in 16-cities in total, including a sold-out headline show at London’s Royal Albert Hall. Earlier this week, she celebrated the launch of Perimenopop with an album launch show at London’s KOKO and is currently in the middle of a “Record Store Tour” around the UK before embarking on a European and U.S. headline tour this fall.
