NYC Punk Rock Veterans The Underbites Release Good Girl Single and Video From Their Forthcoming Four Songs About Girls EP

credit: Kirsten Blackburn

Classic-sounding New York City Punk Rock quartet The Underbites explode back on the scene with “Good Girl”, now available on Spotify and all major music services, with a killer companion video on YouTube

“Good Girl” is a feel good, hyped up, can’t miss track for fans of acts like The Muffs, U.S. Bombs, The Ramones, Social Distortion and other pioneers of punk, with added homage paid to the proliferation of melodies and hooks in the pop-punk ‘90s and early 2000s. The Underbites can vibe with any of the classic CBGB, SoCal, NYHC or Warped Tour scenes that were all highly distinct from one another, but were delivered with a distinctively punk rock ethos.

“‘Good Girl’ isn’t intended to be smarmy,” explains frontman/guitarist Jon Fox. “I saw the soul singer Simi Stone live and when I saw her play her song ‘Good Girl,’ I thought ‘How interesting would it be to write a song from the point of view of the character — from someone who turned good… but not that good.'” Delivered with the band’s trademark combination of humor and punch, the titular character gives up “everything except weed and sex.”

credit: Kirsten Blackburn

Lyrically, Fox draws as much from The Beach Boys, Squeeze and Robyn Hitchcock as he does from the Sex Pistols. Whether tackling activist posturing, consumer culture, economic decline, racial division, the sleazy machinations of politics, or polarizing figures like Donald Trump and Michael Moore, Fox is masterful at jolting listeners with an initial shock that, on closer inspection, reveals layers of thought.

Underbites songs, in fact, don’t spoon-feed you what they’re trying to say, which leaves fertile ground for listeners to walk away with some much-needed new perspective. In a world that’s constantly shouting at us, Fox knows all too well that shouting by itself doesn’t do the trick. Sure, he shouts a good deal too, but his songs are spiked with nuggets of wit and intelligence that belie their surface presentation.

“There’s also,” Fox points out, “a lot of humor, which is such an important part of the palette. You never wanna beat people over the head, so I try to couch my opinions in storytelling—and vice-versa. When we do politics, it’s political with a small-p.”

Birds are Better Present Soaring Debut

The Island (Part One)
New Dream-folk Project by Norwegian Singer/Songwriter Stian Fjelldal

Stream

The Island — Part One, the sparkling debut by Norwegian singer-songwriter Stian Fjelldal’s new dream-folk project Birds Are Better has just been released to Spotify and all the major services.

Creative and eclectic, Birds are Better owes as much to classic groups like Crosby, Stills & Nash as it does to more modern fare like Fleet Foxes, The Flaming Lips and Susanne Sundfør.

Highlight tracks include “Marigold“, “Fencing You In” and the title track, “The Island”.

Watch the video for “Marigold” here

After emerging onto to the scene with the radio hit “Håbløs”, a record deal with Warner Music, and releasing such memorable gems as “Sammen i Mørket,” “Æ vil heim,” “I verdens rigeste land,” “Bare min,, “Festen,” and “Ville hesta,” Fjelldal found himself in a creative rut. So he decided to free himself and go in a new direction with Birds Are Better. These days, Fjelldal is something of a major-label refugee who’s staking his claim in independence and creative freedom with this album.

The Island — Part One is clearly the work of a singer/songwriter reveling in his newfound sense of creative freedom and resurgence. The results are, by turns, gorgeous, breathtaking, melancholy and, ultimately, life-affirming.

John Fogerty Releases Live Version of “Joy of My Life”

The All-New Single is Available Now through BMG

Listen Here: https://lnk.to/joyofmylife

Watch the Lyric Video here: https://youtu.be/iwdbwE9FRvc

Legendary singer-songwriter and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee John Fogerty, best known as the founder and primary songwriter of his band Creedence Clearwater Revival and for his robust solo career, has released an all-new live version of his song “Joy of My Life” through BMG.

Written for his wife Julie, the track was originally featured on Fogerty’s Grammy Award-winning album Blue Moon Swamp (1997). This new live arrangement features his sons Shane and Tyler as well as Rob Stone on saxophone. and arrives just in time for Valentine’s Day.

“’Joy of My Life’ is the first love song that I wrote and is a love letter to my wife Julie. It’s about that emotion when you meet someone and fall in love, and how joyful and special that is” said Fogerty. “It’s one of my favorite songs that I’ve written, and I am so thrilled to know what my song has meant to so many.”

Listen to the live version of “Joy of My Life” here: https://lnk.to/joyofmylife

Country star Chris Stapleton recorded a version of “Joy of My Life” and originally featured it on his most recent album, Starting Over. It was later released as a single in 2022 and subsequently reached #27 on Billboard’s US Hot Country Songs chart. This past weekend, Fogerty and Stapleton met for the first time in Arizona ahead of Stapleton’s performance of the Star Spangled Banner at Super Bowl LVII.

Earlier this year, Fogerty made a bold and unique move when he acquired a majority interest of the worldwide publishing rights to his historic song catalog from Concord.

For Fogerty, the composer of iconic songs that have inspired generations – “Proud Mary,” “Down on the Corner,” “Fortunate Son,” “Bad Moon Rising,” “Have You Ever Seen the Rain,” among many others – the chance to own his compositions has been both a decades-long dream and a personal mission. For years, the copyrights to Fogerty’s classic songs were the property of Saul Zaentz, the owner of Fantasy Records, who sold the label and its publishing portfolio to the former Concord Music Group in 1995. Fogerty, who extricated himself from Fantasy in 1974, re-signed with the label upon its purchase by Concord. Even so, he was not able to gain ownership of his songs – until now.

“As of this January, I own my own songs again. This is something I thought would never be a possibility. After 50 years, I am finally reunited with my songs. I also have a say in where and how my songs are used. Up until this year, that is something I have never been able to do. I am looking forward to touring and celebrating this year! I want thank Concord for helping to make all of this happen. And, I am excited for new ideas and a renewed interest in my music … like a revival,” said John Fogerty.

About John Fogerty

John Fogerty is a true American treasure. As leader of Creedence Clearwater Revival, Fogerty forged a distinctive, groundbreaking sound all his own, equal parts blues, country, pop, rockabilly, R&B, swamp boogie, and Southern fried rock ‘n’ roll, all united by his uniquely evocative lyrical perspective.

Fogerty is a Grammy winner and has been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as well as the Songwriters Hall of Fame. He is the only musician to be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame for his song, “Centerfield,” a staple at baseball stadiums across the country. Among Fogerty’s many hit songs, both as a solo artist and as leader of CCR, highlights include “Centerfield,” “Proud Mary,” “Susie Q,” “Fortunate Son,” “Born on the Bayou,” “Bad Moon Rising,” and “Have You Ever Seen the Rain,” among many others.

In 2019, Fogerty celebrated 50 years in music with a worldwide tour with his show,“My 50 Year Trip.” An album, “50 Year Trip: Live at Red Rocks,” featuring a collection of Creedence Clearwater Revival (CCR) hits, including songs from the set list of his performance at the legendary Woodstock music festival in 1969 among other fan favorites, was released on November 8, 2019.

In April 2020, while self-quarantining together the Fogerty Family, featuring John with his sons Shane, Tyler and daughter Kelsy, gathered in their home studio to play some music together. A weekly video series began and became so popular that a digital EP, Fogerty’s Factory, was released via BMG on Fogerty’s birthday, May 28, 2020.

An extended, Fogerty’s Factory full album was released on November 20, 2020. In December, Creedence Clearwater Revival’s Chronicle Vol. 1 hit the milestone of charting for over 500 weeks on the Billboard 200, becoming only the eighth album to ever do so.

In early January 2021, Fogerty released his first new original solo music in eight years, “Weeping In The Promised Land.” The song is Fogerty’s definitive look back at 2020, ultimately serving as a moving tribute to those who had been affected by the pandemic, as well as those who have suffered through prejudice and injustice, with an eye on brighter days ahead. In January 2023, Fogerty made the bold and unique move to acquire a majority interest of the worldwide publishing rights to his historic CCR song catalog from Concord giving him control of his music for the first time in 50 years.
