John Fogerty Releases Live Version of “Joy of My Life”

The All-New Single is Available Now through BMG

Listen Here:

Watch the Lyric Video here:

Legendary singer-songwriter and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee John Fogerty, best known as the founder and primary songwriter of his band Creedence Clearwater Revival and for his robust solo career, has released an all-new live version of his song “Joy of My Life” through BMG.

Written for his wife Julie, the track was originally featured on Fogerty’s Grammy Award-winning album Blue Moon Swamp (1997). This new live arrangement features his sons Shane and Tyler as well as Rob Stone on saxophone. and arrives just in time for Valentine’s Day.

“’Joy of My Life’ is the first love song that I wrote and is a love letter to my wife Julie. It’s about that emotion when you meet someone and fall in love, and how joyful and special that is” said Fogerty. “It’s one of my favorite songs that I’ve written, and I am so thrilled to know what my song has meant to so many.”

Listen to the live version of “Joy of My Life” here:

Country star Chris Stapleton recorded a version of “Joy of My Life” and originally featured it on his most recent album, Starting Over. It was later released as a single in 2022 and subsequently reached #27 on Billboard’s US Hot Country Songs chart. This past weekend, Fogerty and Stapleton met for the first time in Arizona ahead of Stapleton’s performance of the Star Spangled Banner at Super Bowl LVII.

Earlier this year, Fogerty made a bold and unique move when he acquired a majority interest of the worldwide publishing rights to his historic song catalog from Concord.

For Fogerty, the composer of iconic songs that have inspired generations – “Proud Mary,” “Down on the Corner,” “Fortunate Son,” “Bad Moon Rising,” “Have You Ever Seen the Rain,” among many others – the chance to own his compositions has been both a decades-long dream and a personal mission. For years, the copyrights to Fogerty’s classic songs were the property of Saul Zaentz, the owner of Fantasy Records, who sold the label and its publishing portfolio to the former Concord Music Group in 1995. Fogerty, who extricated himself from Fantasy in 1974, re-signed with the label upon its purchase by Concord. Even so, he was not able to gain ownership of his songs – until now.

“As of this January, I own my own songs again. This is something I thought would never be a possibility. After 50 years, I am finally reunited with my songs. I also have a say in where and how my songs are used. Up until this year, that is something I have never been able to do. I am looking forward to touring and celebrating this year! I want thank Concord for helping to make all of this happen. And, I am excited for new ideas and a renewed interest in my music … like a revival,” said John Fogerty.

About John Fogerty

John Fogerty is a true American treasure. As leader of Creedence Clearwater Revival, Fogerty forged a distinctive, groundbreaking sound all his own, equal parts blues, country, pop, rockabilly, R&B, swamp boogie, and Southern fried rock ‘n’ roll, all united by his uniquely evocative lyrical perspective.

Fogerty is a Grammy winner and has been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as well as the Songwriters Hall of Fame. He is the only musician to be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame for his song, “Centerfield,” a staple at baseball stadiums across the country. Among Fogerty’s many hit songs, both as a solo artist and as leader of CCR, highlights include “Centerfield,” “Proud Mary,” “Susie Q,” “Fortunate Son,” “Born on the Bayou,” “Bad Moon Rising,” and “Have You Ever Seen the Rain,” among many others.

In 2019, Fogerty celebrated 50 years in music with a worldwide tour with his show,“My 50 Year Trip.” An album, “50 Year Trip: Live at Red Rocks,” featuring a collection of Creedence Clearwater Revival (CCR) hits, including songs from the set list of his performance at the legendary Woodstock music festival in 1969 among other fan favorites, was released on November 8, 2019.

In April 2020, while self-quarantining together the Fogerty Family, featuring John with his sons Shane, Tyler and daughter Kelsy, gathered in their home studio to play some music together. A weekly video series began and became so popular that a digital EP, Fogerty’s Factory, was released via BMG on Fogerty’s birthday, May 28, 2020.

An extended, Fogerty’s Factory full album was released on November 20, 2020. In December, Creedence Clearwater Revival’s Chronicle Vol. 1 hit the milestone of charting for over 500 weeks on the Billboard 200, becoming only the eighth album to ever do so.

In early January 2021, Fogerty released his first new original solo music in eight years, “Weeping In The Promised Land.” The song is Fogerty’s definitive look back at 2020, ultimately serving as a moving tribute to those who had been affected by the pandemic, as well as those who have suffered through prejudice and injustice, with an eye on brighter days ahead. In January 2023, Fogerty made the bold and unique move to acquire a majority interest of the worldwide publishing rights to his historic CCR song catalog from Concord giving him control of his music for the first time in 50 years.

Wishbone Ash achieved considerable success in the 1970s, during which they were among England’s most popular hard rock acts, achieving an impressive eight Top 40 albums. Often regarded as one of the premiere UK live acts of the ‘70s, they toured throughout this period and into the following decades.

1972 was one of rock music’s most memorable years for regal releases – a golden age of classic albums – “Exile On Main Street”, “Machine Head”, “The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars”, “All The Young Dudes”, “Roxy Music”, “Can’t Buy A Thrill”, “Sailin’ Shoes”, “Foxtrot”, “Demons And Wizards”, “Transformer” and “Barnstorm” – by rock royalty – The Rolling Stones, Deep Purple, Davie Bowie, Mott The Hoople, Roxy Music, Steely Dan, Little Feat, Genesis, Uriah Heep, Lou Reed and Joe Walsh. Not least among these amazing artists and records was Wishbone Ash and their groundbreaking album “Argus”.

As they reigned supreme through the ‘70s, Wishbone Ash was centered on inspired musicianship, joyful spirit and inventive songs. Their concerts were uplifting and their recorded work sublime. “Argus” remains a stunning highpoint in the band’s startling repertoire. This is a vital addition to the Wishbone Ash catalogue.

The Christmas Chronicles:
A Year in the Life of Jeff Lake

Jeff Lake released his debut EP, “Field of Grass” on August 20, 2021. Since then he has amassed over 200k streams on Spotify, and over 275k views on YouTube with his bluegrass cover of Janis Ian’s “Better Times Will Come” leading the way with 120k views. His new album, “Seven Days” is scheduled for release early next year.

So what do you do in the meantime? If you’re Jeff Lake, what else? You write a new Christmas show! “The Christmas Chronicles” featuring Jeff Lake & Cellophane Flowers will be debuting with back to back performances at The Belfry Music Theater in Delavan, WI on Wednesday, 11/30, and Thursday, 12/1, with additional shows to follow on Sunday, 12/4, at The Gracie Theatre in Bangor, ME, Saturday, 12/10 at The Please Touch Museum in Philadelphia, PA, and Saturday, 12/17 at the Kings Point Theatre in Delray, FL.

“The Christmas Chronicles” reveals the true meaning of Christmas in a series of visually-stunning, intertwined, seasonal vignettes. Tales of love and magic around the globe and through the ages are told through the words of Martin Luther King, Jr, Emily Dickinson, Chief Seattle, Henry V, interpretive dance, and the music of Peter Lynch Tchaikovsky, Ludwig van Beethoven, Lennon/ McCartney, George Harrison, as well as original music by Jeff Lake.

The first release from the show soundtrack, “Happy Xmas (War is Over)” is now available on Spotify and all the major services.

The release is the first by Jeff Lake & Cellophane Flowers since the 2020 album release “Penny Lane” which is available on CD and digital outlets worldwide. Lake does not stray far from the Lennon/Ono classic; but, his voice does soar on the higher vocal lines sung by Yoko Ono on the choruses of the original version. This plus a simple score for guitar and string trio make this holiday classic worthy of a listen.

The idea for the “The Christmas Chronicles” was conceived in 2019 while Lake was singing in church choir during Christmas Eve mass. “Pastor Sallie began speaking of the Christmas Day Truce in 1914 during World War I.” says Lake. “I’m a huge history buff and Beatles fan so I immediately connected the dots to John & Yoko’s song. In that moment, ‘The Christmas Chronicles’ were born”.

Narrator Scout Ford (x-TSO) tells the story: “British and German troops emerged from their trenches exchanging hand shakes and small souvenirs… and in that one magical moment, the war was over!”
