Still Blank Release New Single & Announce Album

Rising transatlantic duo Still Blank announce their self-titled debut album, Still Blank, to be released in November via National Anthem / Capitol Records. To mark the announcement, the pair have shared the propulsive new single “Same Sun,” a punchy post-punk anthem that captures the band’s signature mix of emotional depth and sonic unpredictability. Listen to “Same Sun” HERE and watch the visual HERE.

“Same Sun” stands as one of the album’s most visceral moments. Built around a hypnotic baritone guitar riff recorded in a single take, the track radiates both urgency and transcendence. “That song’s about how we can be so disconnected from the reality of other people’s lives around the world, but at the same time we’re all connected in a fundamental way, we’re all staring at the same sun”, says Jordy.

Formed by Hawaii-born singer/multi-instrumentalist Jordy and Manchester guitarist Ben, Still Blank emerged from a chance encounter in Liverpool’s music scene in 2022. What began as an impromptu basement collaboration with a broken nylon-string guitar quickly evolved into one of alternative music’s most exciting new partnerships. Still Blank’s songwriting draws from both introspection and their surroundings, echoing the mood of artists like Yo La Tengo, Big Thiefand Cat Power. Their genre-shifting sound touches on shoegaze, psych-folk, and post-punk, and has garnered praise from the likes of Stereogum, Under The Radar, CLASH, Dork,Wonderland and DIY amongst others while their releases so far have positioned Still Blank as one of the most enigmatic and shape-shifting new voices in alternative music with a sound that remains fluid and emotionally rich.

Working closely with producer Joel Pott (George Ezra, Shura) and later Flood (PJ Harvey, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds), Still Blank crafted their debut album through an unfiltered process of exploration and experimentation. Recorded between London, Los Angeles, and a remote cabin in Wales, Still Blank captures the duo’s restless curiosity and cinematic soundscapes, ranging from the dreamy introspection of debut single “What About Jane” to the feverish motorik pulse of “Ain’t Quite Right,” and recent track, “Cut Slack”.

Speaking on the album, Jordy explains: “This was a transformational period of our lives, which is reflected throughout the entirety of the record. Some of the songs were written when we first met, some on other sides of the world while navigating separation, and others born into existence in less than a day, after we initially thought we’d finished the record. With a record written before we’d even conjured up a name, the whole creation of this album felt serendipitous – from a chance meeting between ourselves to magically finding likeminded collaborators who took a chance on 2 kids and allowed us to experiment without any pressure from outside sources.”

Despite a whirlwind journey, including Jordy’s unexpected deportation during the album’s creation and a move to Los Angeles, Still Blank quickly established themselves as one of the most compelling new voices in alternative music. This fall, the Still Blank will take their dynamic live show on the road, joining Royel Otis across all European dates. View the full itinerary HERE. Known for sets that move between fragile intimacy and full-blown catharsis, these shows mark an exciting next chapter ahead of the album’s release. With a growing cult curiosity within the scene, Still Blank are setting their own rules and embracing ambiguity.

About Still Blank

Still Blank’s sound was born from unlikely roots. Jordy grew up immersed in the natural rhythms of island life in Hawaii, gigging at weddings and fundraisers by her early teens while drawing inspiration from Hawaiian traditions and the deep solitude of Kaua’i. Ben, raised on Manchester’s rich musical legacy and early pub gigs with his dad’s band, developed a taste for ambient textures, citing The Durutti Column and Vini Reilly as formative influences. Their unlikely meeting in the UK sparked a lightning-in-a-bottle creative partnership. What started as casual jam sessions in a Liverpool basement quickly evolved, with sessions ranging from stripped-back recordings on a broken classical guitar to studio lock-ins fueled by long walks through rural Wales and a shared commitment to imperfection. With lyrics steeped in people-watching, dreams, nature, and existential observation, Still Blank’s songwriting draws from both introspection and their surroundings, echoing the mood of artists like Yo La Tengo, Big Thiefand Cat Power.
