Opportunity for Participation in Community Public Art Installation
The Southern Arizona Arts & Cultural Alliance (SAACA) is inviting community members to take part in a meaningful and heartfelt public art installation to honor loved ones during the Park Place Street Art Festival – Día de los Muertos Edition, on Saturday, November 2, 2024, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Park Place Mall. This vibrant festival will transform the space into a lively celebration of life, culture, and remembrance, with a special community ofrenda at its heart.
As part of the festival, SAACA is creating a collective Día de los Muertos Ofrenda, where community members can submit photos and short stories of family members who have passed away. The submitted photos will be printed and included in the ofrenda for public viewing for two weeks, starting on November 2. This is an opportunity for families to celebrate the memories of their loved ones, creating a beautiful, shared tribute that honors this rich cultural tradition.
How to Participate:
Community members are encouraged to submit the following by Friday, October 25, 2024:
One digital photo (JPEG or PNG) of each loved one.
An optional short story or memory (up to 100 words) to accompany the photo.
The name of the loved one (optional, as it should appear on the ofrenda).
Your contact information (for internal use only).
Submissions can be made online at the following link:
Submit Your Photos and Stories Here.
Participants can also bring their photos and stories in person to the Park Place Street Art Festival on November 2, between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.
In addition to the community ofrenda, the festival will feature ten live painters creating stunning Día de los Muertos-inspired works of art, live mariachi music, an interactive Kids Zone with 3D chalk art murals, and the creation of two permanent mural installations. This is more than just an art festival—it’s a day to honor the past, celebrate the present, and connect with your community.
The festival will also celebrate the creation of the largest mural in Arizona, by local artist Jessica Gonzales. Meet and greet the artist, photo opportunities with mural and artist, and more.
For questions or more information, please contact Da’Lice Shepard at dalice@saaca.org. We hope you will join us for this unforgettable day of remembrance, creativity, and community.
