Cave Creek Museum’s Local Landmarks program prepares to expand in 2025-2026

Cave Creek, Arizona – To celebrate Cave Creek’s history, its wonders and to continue to promote exploration of the many places that have shaped the town’s vibrant character, the Cave Creek Museum’s Local Landmarks program will feature three new winners in 2025 and 2026. The program was established by the Town of Cave Creek in late 2020 and transitioned to the museum in spring of 2024.

“The Local Landmarks effort focuses on iconic buildings and special spaces. Landmarks are recognized with a bronze plaque that connects the celebrated locations with a storytelling map,” says Marcia D’Alessandro, Local Landmarks program chair. “The map allows residents and visitors to explore virtually, physically and through the storytelling of Cave Creek’s pioneers, descendants and residents. Landmarks’ popularity continues growing through community nominations, educational outreach and physical signage throughout town.”

Currently, the landmarks recognized for their historical, cultural and community significance are:

American Legion Post 34

Big Earl’s Greasy Eats

Black Mountain Feed

Black Mountain Summit

Buffalo Chip

Carpenter’s Trading Post

Cave Creek Inn/Oregano’s

Cave Creek Memorial Arena

Cave Creek Museum

Cave Creek Regional Park

Dairy Queen

Desert Awareness Park

Desert Foothills Library

El Encanto

Harold’s Corral

Hideaway

Horny Toad

Indian Village

Le Sans Souci

Spur Cross Ranch Conservation Area

The program is administered in partnership with the Cave Creek Museum, which helps identify new sites and promote the growing list of recognized locations.

“The Town of Cave Creek will continue to allocate funding in order for the museum to administer the program into the future, which includes identifying and recognizing the remaining locations worthy of recognition and marketing the program after completing the plaque presentation phase,” adds D’Alessandro. Each Landmark is celebrated during recognition ceremonies to show the community’s appreciation of these places and people.”
