86th ANNUAL TOHONO O’ODHAM NATION RODEO AND FAIR
SELLS, Ariz. – The Tohono O’odham Nation Rodeo and Fair – O’odham Wapkial Ha-Taṣ, Southern Arizona’s longest running all-Indian rodeo, returns for its 86th year on Jan. 31 and runs through Feb. 2, 2025. The event highlights top talent in the famed all-Indian rodeo competitions while sharing rich traditions through the musical and dance performances. For the very first time, admission and carnival rides will be free to the public.
Tohono O’odham Nation Charman Verlon Jose said, “We want to thank the Nation’s Legislative Council for agreeing to the Executive Office’s proposal to make this a free event. The rodeo and fair is an important tradition that brings us together to celebrate our culture, our history, and who we are. This action helps make the Nation’s largest community gathering more accessible for all O’odham and guests.”
The Rodeo & Fair takes place at the Eugene P. Tashquinth Sr. Livestock Complex, which is located three miles west of Sells, Arizona on Highway 86. The parade takes place along Sells Main Street on Saturday, Feb. 1. Other activities include Toka tournaments, a Ha’a race, a fun run and walk, a pow wow competition, a Waila dance contest, a basketball tournament, traditional dances and games, a carnival, as well as plenty of booths, arts and crafts, and food. Attendees can enjoy live music all three nights.
Additional support from sponsors such as Desert Diamond Casino, the Hunt / Penta Joint Venture, CKP Insurance, Dentons, and others is helping cover other rodeo and fair expenses.
