Alt-Pop Artist Leyla Ebrahim New Single & Tour
Hollywood, CA) Today, alt-pop artist Leyla Ebrahimi shares “i don’t like being left behind,” a powerful new single out now via Deerfield Records / Interscope Records. With vividly expressive lyrics, the shifting mix of synth-pop, darkwave, post-punk, and dreamy indie offers a visceral depiction of losing love and grappling with the aftermath.
Co-produced by Alexander 23 (Olivia Rodrigo, Reneé Rapp) and go-to Leyla collaborator Shane Pielocik, “i don’t like being left behind” evolves to match her mood as she processes loss. She’s indignant at first, chanting “I don’t like being left behind / How could you leave me behind?” before landing on begrudging acceptance. By the song’s end, though, she’s almost forcefully hopeful: “I need you running back to me and saying, ‘My love, I’ve finally been set free. / Oh, I, I have a feeling you’re coming back to me.” Along the way, we get epic synths, vocoded mantras, grinding guitar, snapping drums, and gauzy atmosphere.
Said Leyla, “I think this song is particularly fun because of the vocoder that we use- I’ve always loved Daft Punk and the chorus here is vastly inspired by their music. I’ve always found it easiest to navigate love and loss and anger and hope through the music I write, this song encompasses all those things. And none of it is linear. It’s one of my favorite pieces I’ve ever written. I hope you love it as much as I do.”
The single is yet another testament to Leyla’s genre-agnostic approach, unvarnished yet poetic lyrics, and gift for transmitting raw emotion — something fans will get to witness in person at her upcoming debut headliners. On November 11, the New York-based singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist will play Brooklyn’s Union Pool, where she used to barback while working on the music she’s sharing now. A week later, on November 18, she’ll be at School Night in Hollywood.
