BAD AXE

November 18, 2022

BAD AXE will be opening in cinemas on November 18, 2022 and launching on VOD on the same date.

BAD AXE follows the filmmaker, David Siev in 2020 affter leaving NYC for his rural hometown of Bad Axe, Michigan, at the start of the pandemic. He documents his family’s struggles to keep their restaurant afloat. As fears of the virus grow, deep generational scars dating back to Cambodia’s bloody “killing fields” come to the fore, straining the relationship between the family’s patriarch, Chun, and his daughter, Jaclyn. When the BLM (Black Lives Matter) movement takes center stage in America, the family uses its collective voice to speak out in their conservative community. What unfolds is a real-time portrait of 2020 through the lens of one multicultural family’s fight to stay in business, stay involved, and stay alive.

BAD AXE has been nominated for a Critics Choice Documentary Award for Best First Documentary Feature. Additionally, subject Chun Siev has been honored by Cinema Eye as one of the 2023 Unforgettables. Winner of the Audience Award and a Special Jury Mention at SXSW, BAD AXE is one the year’s most awarded documentaries winning over 15+ awards and prizes to date. Daniel Dae Kim recently signed on as an Executive Producer joining Jeff Tremaine as an executive producer.

BAD AXE continues to have an incredible film festival run winning over 20 jury prizes/audience awards from over 25+ film festivals. Director David Siev will be honored this week by the Critics Choice Association with the inaugural Social Justice Award at the Critics Choice Celebration of Asian Pacific American Film & Television.
