Campland’s Free Camping Program Continues to Empower Underserved Communities, Nearing 2024 Goals
San Diego, CA – January 12, 2024 – Furthering its commitment to inclusivity and coastal access, Campland on the Bay®, San Diego’s beloved RV campground, in cooperation with the California Coastal Commission, proudly announces the ongoing success and continuation of its Free Camping Program for underserved California youth and families to experience camping on Mission Bay in 2024 and beyond.
“Ensuring equitable access to the beauty of Mission Bay remains a cornerstone of our mission,” said Jacob Gelfand, Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Terra Vista Management. “We are thrilled to witness the positive impact our Free Camping Program has had on fostering diversity and inclusion in our community. We look forward to continuing the program and helping to create lasting memories for younger generations for years to come.”
A destination for family-friendly fun for more than 50 years, Campland is located on the shores of the nation’s largest aquatic park surrounded by miles of beaches and bike paths. It offers a vast array of resort amenities. The year-round Free Camping Program is designed to further diversity, equity, and inclusion for underrepresented populations. It achieves this goal by offering free campsite rentals and camping gear, access to resort amenities and activities, free watercraft rentals, free vehicle parking, reimbursed transportation costs for participating organizations, and more.
Since its inception in March 2022, Campland’s Free Camping Program has made remarkable strides, exceeding expectations by hosting 189 total families, comprising 226 adults and 323 children, amounting to 587 site nights and over $75,000 in camping expenses covered. The program has collaborated with six groups, including the YMCA, Mid-City Can, World Beat Center, Surfers Healing, and Poway 4-H, expanding its reach and impact. As Campland ushers in the new year, the Free Camping Program is on track for continued success, having nearly reached its 2024 goal and welcoming several returning groups, highlighting the program’s positive impact and sustained appeal.
Campland continues to seek additional organizations that attend to underserved communities, individuals with disabilities, and low-income families in California.
