Cave Creek Museum and Kiwanis Preschool Pioneers present “There Was a Coyote Who Swallowed a Flea”
On Thursday, March 12, 2026 from 10-11 AM, Cave Creek Museum (CCM)/Kiwanis Preschool Pioneers will present “There Was a Coyote Who Swallowed a Flea.”
“There Was a Coyote Who Swallowed a Flea” is a humorous, Southwestern-themed children’s book that retells a classic rhyme of a hungry coyote eating increasingly larger desert animals, including a cactus and the moon, all while a flea remains inside him. The book was written by Jennifer Ward.
Accompanying adults will lead children on a hunt through the museum to find some of the things in the coyote story. The book uses a catchy, repetitive rhythm to tell the silly story of the coyote’s absurd appetite, making it fun for kids to read along.
Kiwanis Preschool Pioneers is designed for children ages 3-5 however all ages are welcome! Children must be accompanied by at least one adult. Age-appropriate books set the stage for movement and music, trying out a process, exploring museum artifacts or acting out parts of the story with props. Pre-registration is strongly encouraged; walk-ins are accepted first come, first serve as class size is limited. This free program is made possible by the financial support of the Kiwanis Club of Carefree. Adults need to be engaged with their child as this is not a drop off program. Register at cavecreekmuseum.org.
The 55-year-old museum’s mission is to preserve the artifacts of the prehistory, history, culture and legacy of the Cave Creek Mining District and the Cave Creek/Carefree foothills area through education, research and interpretive exhibits.
