“Industry Day” in the Town of Miami, Arizona
The Arizona Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (AZHCC) Announces “Industry Day” in the Town of Miami, Arizona Town of Miami, AZ.
According to the Arizona Lottery, “every year, hundreds of millions of dollars from Arizona Lottery ticket sales go to programs and organizations doing good in four key areas: higher education, health and human services, environmental conservation, economic and business development.” This year the Arizona Lottery Gives Back Campaign provided a generous grant to the Arizona Hispanic Chamber of Commerce’s (AZHCC) American Indian, Alaska Native, & Native Hawaiian (AIANNH) Project, referred to as NABEDC (pronounced “Nah Bed See”) to ensure our State’s Indigenous and vulnerable entrepreneurs/business owners have a clear path to business development services and resource providers.
To support these efforts, on Thursday, April 11, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, the Arizona Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the Town of Miami will be hosting an Industry Day specifically for entrepreneurs, business owners, students, and anyone wanting to learn about how to start a new business or grow an existing business.
Christina Mercado-Gonzalez, Executive Director of NABEDC stated, “…the vision to bring a business-specific Industry Day to the Town of Miami, Arizona was a natural fit to support the vision of the Arizona Lottery Gives Back Program, and a platform to promote NABEDC, the AZHCC’s Capital Readiness Program, and other services.” Kaaren-Lyn Graves, the Executive Director of the new AZHCC’s Capital Readiness Program shared that, “this event is apropos, timely, and needed. Many businesses, especially those in rural areas, may not have direct access to business specific services, especially ones which support accessing capital resources, so we are bringing the service providers to them.”
Theresa Hernandez, Business Development Lead, also part of the AZHCC’s Capital Readiness Program and one of the core contributors to the event planning logistics provided a heartfelt message; “as someone who has personal ties to the Town of Miami, being able to have an Industry Day in Miami will bring the local business community, families, and everyone together. It truly is a proud moment to see this come full circle, and I am excited about the event.”
With hundreds of business establishments consisting of restaurants, coffee shops, hotels, grocery stores, retailers, professional services (ex. attorneys, dentists, physicians), and many others, serving 10,000 residents and more than 800,000 tourists annually, the Town of Miami and surrounding cities including Globe, Superior, and Claypool will benefit immensely from Industry Day. We are expecting a great turnout and will have representatives from the Resolution Copper, Capstone Copper, Capstone KGHM, Freeport McMoRan, the Arizona Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, the Town of Miami, local libraries, representatives from Arizona’s Tribes, business owners, service providers, entrepreneurs, students, and numerous others.
Evelyn Vargas, the Economic Development Director was instrumental in the event planning and reflected on the history of the communities, “The Copper Corridor has a rich history of copper mining and many of our small towns are still mining copper today and will be in the future. Our communities are unique because as our large industry has had a huge impact on the world economy, the rural communities these mines are located in, have adapted, changed, and are now eclectic small business appealing to the tourist industry while maintaining the community feel for our residents.”
