Local Landmarks program to honor Cave Creek Building Supply
Cave Creek, Arizona – On Thursday, February 12, 2026 at 10 AM, residents, business owners, town representatives and the public will gather to present a Local Landmarks award to Cave Creek Building Supply, which began operations in 1963. The Local Landmarks program, which is managed by Cave Creek Museum, awards community destinations with a brass plaque in celebration of being part of the town’s heritage. The company, which boasts lumber and other building materials, hardware, tools and home improvement supplies, is located at 6948 E. Cave Creek Road in Cave Creek.
“There are few structures standing in Cave Creek that do not have something from Cave Creek Building Supply holding them in place and upright,” says Marcia D’Alessandro, Local Landmarks chair. “One of the longest operating businesses in town makes this place not just a landmark, but a Cave Creek cornerstone. When you walk in, you feel like part of the family.”
Enduring three generations and a fire, which claimed the original building, Cave Creek Building Supply continues to thrive and contribute to the health of the community. The business originally was founded by Chuck Davis and Curt Cockburn, two local Cave Creek builders. In 1971, the business was taken over by the Perfect family, led by father Dave and son Tim, who still run it today. Dave, an electrical engineer by trade, moved from Wisconsin to King of Prussia, Penn., where his three sons were born. When Dave’s father, Dal, left his job at General Electric, he moved to Cave Creek to work and was joined by son Dave. Son Tim grew up in Cave Creek’s school district and worked with his father off and on beginning at age eight. During his young years, Tim stocked spray paint and light bulbs, among other duties. He later jetted to California to earn an economics degree at the University of California, then returned to Cave Creek Building Supply to work full-time beginning in 1981.
“The best thing about working in a family-owned business is that I was able to work with my father every day,” says Tim. “I always loved the place and learned the tricks of the trade from my father who was an excellent teacher. I only hope to run the company as well as my dad.”
Tim was almost finished with school when a fire occurred. He had to hold on continuing his education for a while to help the business. He studied during summer months while the family team worked out of cargo containers until the company moved to its current building in Cave Creek in 2000. Later, a Home Depot and Lowe’s opened, a challenge for the small town western supply company. However, the family overcame the odds. Today, despite the numerous business challenges they faced, and Dave’s fight to survive a stroke and heart attack, the family members have intensified their forces to build Cave Creek Building Supply’s continued success.
