July 18, 2023 @ 8:00 am - July 23, 2023 @ 5:00 pm MST

Las Palomas Beach Resort & Golf and CEDO host the “Planet Ocean—Tides Are Changing” event

• The event will take place at Las Palomas Beach Resort Convention Center, from July 18 to 23.

• Event is in celebration of World Ocean Week 2023, International Vaquita Day and World Whale and Dolphin Day.

This summer for the first time in Puerto Peñasco, Las Palomas Beach Resort & Golf joins artist Memuco and the Intercultural Center for Studies of the Deserts and Oceans (CEDO) to present the “Planet Ocean—Tides Are Changing” event, from July 18 to 23, at the Convention Center located on the third floor of the Las Palomas main complex.

The event includes a series of family activities, movies, talks, exhibitions, a gift shop, and food to raise awareness and appreciation of the vaquita and other marine mammals and continue to celebrate the 2023 World Ocean Week and International Vaquita Day and World Whale and Dolphin Day. The Sea of Cortez is megadiverse in marine mammals—36 species representing 31 cetaceans in eight families (Balaenidae, Eschrichtiidae, Balaenopteridae, Physeteridae, Kogiidae, Ziphiidae, Delphinidae, Phocoenidae) and four pinnipeds in two families (Phocidae and Otariidae).

Organizers are inviting tourists planning to visit Puerto Peñasco the week of July 17- 23 to stay at Las Palomas Beach Resort & Golf and enjoy a week of ocean-related activities during the event ” Planet Ocean — The Tides Are Changing.” Guests staying at Las Palomas will learn about vaquita, stingrays, sharks, whales, and sea lions and will participate in art and crafts activities, art shows and films. 15% of Las Palomas profits will support CEDO in their marine life conservation efforts, and guests will make a difference for our oceans when making their reservation using the code CEDO.

Puerto Peñasco is located in the northern Gulf of California, also known as the Sea of Cortez, and was named The Aquarium of the World by Jacques Cousteau. Here, locals and visitors enjoy the best beaches in Sonora closest to Arizona. Puerto Peñasco, also known as Rocky Point, is a place to come together and enjoy not only its extraordinary biodiversity but also the warmth of its people. Guests who are already at Las Palomas will be able to enjoy the Open House on Saturday, July 22, which includes free morning and evening activities in the Audiovisual Room, the presentation of the short film “Turtle World—El Desemboque de Sonora”, a cooking class, exhibitions, and a talk about sea turtles. A trip to San Jorge Island is included with a cost. For reservations contact alan.gil@cedo.org.

CEDO also asks participants and the general public to support their PROTECTING OUR OCEANS BEGINS WITH YOU! campaign and donate here:
