Rose’s Pawn Shop Signs With KZZ Music
The band partners with KZZ Music in advance of the release of a much-anticipated 4th album coming this fall
Los Angeles — July 12, 2022 — LA-based Americana-rock group Rose’s Pawn Shop announced today that they have signed a deal with KZZ Music. KZZ Music is a multi-disciplinary music production company co-founded by Kirk Pasich, Zachary Ross, and Zackary Darling in 2021. Producer Zachary Ross has toured nationally with the group as lead guitarist and contributed to numerous studio recordings. Now through KZZ Music, he expands his partnership with the band to release their forthcoming LP, Punch-Drunk Life; set to release in fall 2022.
According to Zachary Ross, “Rose’s Pawn Shop is cresting its apex, and that’s thanks in large part to Paul Givant’s trajectory as a songwriter. KZZ recognizes his ever-growing lyrical mastery.” Ross also speaks from first-hand experience collaborating and touring with the band for the better part of a decade. “Rose’s is a band of brothers, and that cohesion draws audiences in. KZZ is excited to help them reach new ears.”
Over the years Rose’s Pawn Shop cultivated a loyal fanbase thanks to its ongoing tour circuit and high-energy, heartfelt shows. Roaming from Anchorage to the Grand Tetons and every mountain town in between, the band connects with audiences across the nation. “Paul’s ever-searching lyrics speak to people who are out there on the mountain searching for something,” Ross said of the band’s affinity for outdoor wonders. But according to Givant, the band’s origin story is colored by something grittier than mountain dirt.
Rose’s Pawn Shop began as an alt-country project under a few other names in the mid-2000s. While the band was working on its debut album, Paul was engaged in a tumultuous relationship. “I was dating a harmony singer — a rookie mistake,” Givant divulges. “Predictably, things quickly devolved into a whiskey-fueled, explosive, crash-and-burn breakup, which in turn led to the vengeance-minded harmony singer going on to steal and pawn the band’s gear at various pawn shops throughout North Hollywood. And through that act of creative destruction, the band now known as Rose’s Pawn Shop was born.”
The band went on to release its debut album The Arsonist in 2006 to alt-country, indie-Americana critical acclaim. Soon thereafter, the band began building a sizable fanbase through intrepid and extensive national and international touring, indie radio, and the sharing of the band’s music across the clunky mid-to-late 2000s social media platforms. The band followed up their debut album with 2010’s bluegrass country-rock-inspired Dancing On The Gallows and 2014s critically acclaimed Gravity Well. This third album was produced by Ted Hutt following his success with the Old Crow Medicine Show and the Dropkick Murphys.
Following Gravity Well, the band earned recognition in major media platforms including Rolling Stone, GQ Magazine, and NPR. Over the years that success has been continuously validated; the group has featured at major festivals including Hardly Strictly and BottleRock, earned TV placements on CW and ABC, and provided direct support to artists such as Lucinda Williams and Jamestown Revival. Jack White even hand-picked the group to open for The Raconteurs in Los Angeles. Fans can also catch the group in “The Pulse of Americana” and “Gothic Country” Spotify playlists. Now Rose’s Pawn Shop is gearing up to release a much-anticipated fourth LP, Punch-Drunk Life, on October 14, 2022.
Produced by Zachary Ross, Punch-Drunk Life features a full lineup of Americana artistry. Throughout the band’s history, a variety of talented members have come and gone, but the constants have been singer-songwriter and founder Paul Givant and upright bass player Stephen Andrews, whose tenure now surpasses a decade. On their latest album, frontman Paul Givant takes lead vocals and rhythm guitar, Zachary Ross takes lead guitar, and Stephen Andrews and Tim Weed complete the string section. Matt Lesser plays drums and percussion while fan-favorite John Kraus returns for an inspired Banjo performance. The early sessions took place under pandemic conditions. Unable to tour, the band experimented with remote collaboration before restrictions loosened. The final tracks were laid while observing social distancing and mask protocols in a hybrid-outdoor studio space. Sidelined by COVID-19, Rose’s Pawn Shop intends to remind the industry and its fans what makes them so special with this fresh release.
Leading up to the album’s debut, the group plans to tour nationally. They also have more creative projects in the works with KZZ Music. “We’re extremely excited to release this album, produced by Zachary Ross of KZZ,” Givant said. “We feel the collaboration and release of the new album will excite current fans of the band while helping grow the band’s audience and reach new ears.” Rose’s Pawn Shop looks forward to touring in 2022 and beyond.
