Stuff The Bus Event Saturday July 17th to Support TUSD Students In Need

TUCSON, ARIZ. – Back to school is rapidly approaching but returning to the classroom won’t be an easy transition for many students in our community. The price of back-to-school basics such as supplies, backpacks, and uniforms is simply unaffordable for many low-income families, and those impacted by the pandemic.

The Educational Enrichment Foundation (EEF) is partnering with the Tucson Unified School District (TUSD) Family Resource Centers to host a Stuff The Bus event to support K-12 students’ basic needs. On Saturday, July 17, 2021, from 8 am – 12 pm, volunteers will be collecting donated items at two Walmart locations in Tucson; Walmart El Con at 3435 E Broadway Blvd, and Walmart Kolb at 7150 E Speedway Blvd. A TUSD school bus will be parked in front of each location where donations can be dropped off. New and gently used uniforms, backpacks, shoes and classroom supplies are needed. Monetary donations may be made at www.eeftucson.org.

Jeffrey Sawyer TUSD Program Specialist for Family and Community Engagement said, “EEF is a lifesaver for a lot of our students. We have students who need to share clothes and shoes with other family members. EEF steps in and is able to get those students’ shoes (and other basics needs) which means they can come to school every day. Sometimes helping students meet their most basic needs can be a calculator or eyeglasses, regardless of what is going on, the need is on a continual basis. We do have a very generous community and that’s a saving grace for all of us.”
