UA Poetry Center Summer Schedule

On June 25, the UA Poetry Center will begin our annual summer closure and we will not be open to the public. We will also not have a newsletter next week. Thank you for your understanding as we rest and re-charge, and we’ll plan to see you when we re-open on Tuesday, July 12 at 9 AM!
Summer Events

Summer Socials will take place at the Century Room at Hotel Congress, 311 E. Congress St. Summer Socials are designed as interesting happy hour experiences. Each event will feature complimentary snacks and a cash bar; doors at 5:00, program at 6:00 pm.

Summer Social – Tucson Tome Gnome / July 20, 5:00 PM / Join editor Julie Swarstad Johnson, who will share poems from this trailblazing anthology, which includes writers as diverse as Robert Hayden, Rae Armantrout, N. Scott Momaday, Adrienne Rich, Tracy K. Smith, Ray Bradbury, May Swenson and Pablo Neruda.

Summer Social – Beyond Earth’s Edge: The Poetry of Spaceflight / August 10, 5:00 PM / Join us to learn more about the Tucson Tome Gnome, a monthly book giveaway project in greater Tucson, lead by Tucsonans Mary Ellen Flynn, Jody Hardy, and Emily Walsh.

Summer Residency Reading: Mai Der Vang and Anthony Cody / August 11, 7:00 PM / 2022 UA Poetry Center Summer Residents Mai Der Vang and Anthony Cody will read from their work. After the reading, there will be a book signing. All events will be streamed live on our website in addition to the in-person reading.

Film Screening – Ruth Stone’s Vast Library of the Female Mind / August 16, 7:00 PM / This event takes place at The Loft Cinema, 3233 E. Speedway Blvd. Join us for a free screening of the documentary Ruth Stone’s Vast Library of the Female Mind, with an introduction from acclaimed director Nora Jacobson of Off the Grid Productions.

Spring Exhibits

[ih-maj-in] : Artists’ Books from PaperWorks / April 5 through June 24 / To imagine is to dream, fantasize, hope, fear, evoke, and evolve. Our imaginations embrace curiosity and wonder, possibility and impossibility as they spark our individual and collective futures into being. Join us for an exhibition of artists’ books that engage with the imagination, presented in cooperation with PaperWorks, the Sonoran Collective for Paper and Book Artists. Juried by book artist Barbara Tetenbaum, this exhibit explores how artmakers enliven their creative visions across diverse book forms, varied techniques, and the interplay of image and text. Venture into the space of each book to explore the world of your own imagination.
