TUCSON, AZ – Tucson Comic-Con welcomes Whilce Portacio and Brian Haberlin to the celebration! These industry veterans have so many known titles under their belt! Don’t miss your chance to meet these amazing members of the comic book industry!
Whilce Portacio is a comic book artist, best known for his work on The Punisher, X-Factor, and Spawn. Portacio broke into the comic book industry as an inker to Marvel Comics’ classic book Longshot in 1985, then later became a penciler on The Punisher in 1988. His success drawing X-Factor in the 90s gave him the chance to create his own, now fan-favorite X-Men character: Bishop.
Whilce was also a co-founder of Image Comics, one of the top independent comic publishers in the world today. He then went on to release the successful independent title Stone with his friend and co-creator Brian Haberlin. Whilce continues to release books and covers under Marvel and DC Comics, with recent projects like X-Men Legends (with Haberlin as his writer), Deadpool Seven Slaughters, Iron Fist and Iron Man.
Brian Haberlin is an award-winning American comic book artist, writer, editor, and producer known for his work on Spawn, Witchblade, and Marvel Knights. Haberlin’s comic book career led him to Top Cow Productions, where he rose to VP of Creative Affairs and oversaw the company’s creative operations.
While there, he co-created Witchblade. Under his studio Haberlin produced work for Marvel Comics, DC Comics, and Image Comics. He then started Avalon Publishing, creating/publishing many successful fantasy and sci-fi titles, including Stone (highest highest-selling independent comic of the year it was released), Aria (the #2-selling comic in the U.S. in its release), Area 52, and M-Rex, which has been adapted into the successful Cartoon Network series Generator Rex. Haberlin became Editor in Chief for Todd McFarlane Productions in 2006, and penciled and inked its flagship title, Spawn, for two years during David Hine’s run as writer.
