More Heartland: Gifts of Life
By Madelyn Ritrosky. Two more films on my screening list at the 2006 Heartland Film Festival were Expiration Date and The Ultimate Gift. Each film focuses on a young man following some sort of “list” of things he is compelled to do (for very different reasons), and along the way makes some realizations and, because of those realizations, also falls in love. The last shot of both films (before the end credits) is a kiss between the protagonist and his new girlfriend. Read more...

The Heartland Film Festival’s mission is to “recognize and honor filmmakers whose work explores the human journey by artistically expressing hope and respect for the positive values of life.”
So what’s the festival experience so far? The opening night film was the U.S. premiere of Amazing Grace, a gripping emotional drama about the man who tirelessly fought to bring about the end of legalized slavery in the British Empire in the early 19th century. Read more...
