Behind The Gallery has announced that due to popular demand, following this week’s highly anticipated debut at Morrison Hotel Gallery in New York City, Los Angeles will now host Jonathan Rach: Nine Inch Nails, The Downward Spiral Exhibition. Jonathan Rach, award-winning documentary photographer and close collaborator of Nine Inch Nails, brings his iconic Self Destruct Tour photography to the U.S. for the first time.
The New York exhibition will run February 21-24, 2025, at Morrison Hotel Gallery (116 Prince St.), followed by the Los Angeles showcase from March 6-9, 2025, at 7615 Sunset Blvd.
Following acclaimed exhibitions in Australia (March 2024) and the UK (October 2024), this collection captures the raw intensity of Nine Inch Nails’ legendary 1994-96 global tour, celebrating the 30th anniversary of The Downward Spiral.
In 1994, Nine Inch Nails transitioned from underground disruptors to generational icons, delivering live performances that were equal parts chaos and catharsis. Embedded in the Self Destruct Tour, Jonathan Rach captured this unfiltered energy, creating a collection that transcends photography to become an artifact of a groundbreaking moment in music history.
As Rach told Rolling Stone, “I knew night after night that Trent [Reznor] was doing something pretty special, and they would talk about this tour for years. The shows had a ferocious energy matched only by the crowd out front. To this day, the industry still talks about that tour and its impact.”
The New York exhibition will feature over 20 powerful images, ranging from behind-the-scenes moments to career-defining performances. The Los Angeles showcase will expand the collection to include more than 50 images, including highlights from NIN’s six-night Hollywood Palladium run in 2018, as well as photographs of legendary artists David Bowie and Lou Reed.
As part of the events, Jonathan Rach will host an Artist Talk during both exhibitions, offering deeper insights and behind-the-scenes stories about this celebrated collection. In both cities, fans can also attend the special playback of The Downward Spiral album.
“Bringing this collection to New York and Los Angeles is incredibly exciting,” says Behind The Gallery’s Creative Director, Stephen Dallimore. “The response from Australia and the UK was phenomenal, and now the East and West Coast NIN communities will experience it. This is an intimate look at a pivotal moment in the band’s career—before the days of social media. It’s a special event for fans and collectors alike.”
“Morrison Hotel Gallery has always been about celebrating the intersection of music and photography,” says MHG CEO Adam Block. “Jonathan Rach’s work captures the raw intensity and artistry that define NIN, and we’re thrilled to bring this immersive experience to our flagship New York City location. Over three days, we’ll celebrate these powerful images through photography, music, and storytelling.”
