YWCA Stand Against Racism Day and Stand Against Racism Weekend

April 28, 2022 @ 8:00 am - May 1, 2022 @ 5:00 pm MST

Pima County Board of Supervisors Proclaims April 28 to be YWCA Stand Against Racism Day!

On Tuesday, April 5th, the Pima County Board of Supervisors proclaimed Thursday April 28, 2022 to be YWCA Stand Against Racism Day, and April 28-May 1, 2022 to be Stand Against Racism Weekend, in celebration and support of YWCA USA’s signature Stand Against Racism campaign to raise awareness about the impact of racism in our communities.

YWCA Southern Arizona is grateful to the Pima County Board of Supervisors for this bold gesture of their support in making our county a more equitable place to live and work, and in calling all residents to be active participants in the elimination of racism.

During the month of April, YWCA Southern Arizona is partnering with YWCA Metro Phoenix to host a 21-Day Stand Against Racism challenge, featuring daily activities designed to help participants learn about 4 key topics relating to the impacts of systemic racism. Activities may include personal reflection, reading an article, listening to a podcast, or watching a video. This year’s topics are Living Wage, Reproductive Justice, Representation in TV and Film, and Critical Race Theory. Those interested in participating can register for the challenge, which began April 4th and ends on May 2nd, 2022, at bit.ly/ywsar22.

The full text of the Proclamation is as follows:

WHEREAS, all residents, regardless of race, creed, or ethnicity deserve to be treated with dignity, respect, compassion, and justice, and

WHEREAS, Pima County residents value initiatives that will end race-based disparities and make the world a more equitable, inclusive and dignified place for all to live, and

WHEREAS, the elimination of racism can be achieved only with the participation of all residents in dialogue, reflection and action, and

WHEREAS, the Pima County Board of Supervisors supports YWCA in its praiseworthy mission to eliminate racism, empower women, stand up for social justice, help families, and strengthen communities, and

WHEREAS, the Pima County Board of Supervisors proudly supports the YWCA Southern Arizona in celebration of Stand Against Racism, a signature campaign of YWCA USA to build community among those who work for racial justice and to raise awareness about the negative impact of institutional and structural racism in our communities,

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Pima County Board of Supervisors hereby proclaims Thursday, April 28, 2022, to be: “YWCA STAND AGAINST RACISM DAY”

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Board proclaims April 28, 2022, to May 1, 2022, to be: “YWCA STAND AGAINST RACISM WEEKEND”

Passed and adopted this 5th day of April 2022.
