At 10am on Saturday, February 18th, the Cholla Foundation will be hosting its annual golf tournament with proceeds benefiting the Boys & Girls Clubs of Tucson (BGCT).
Held at the Arizona National Golf Course, this marks the 8th annual tournament the Cholla Foundation has spearheaded. While player spots have sold out, golf enthusiasts can support the event by bidding on digital auction items that will launch approximately a week prior to the event. Interested parties are encouraged to email events@bgctucson.org to obtain a link to the auction or to learn how to get further involved.
The funds raised from previous Cholla Golf Tournaments have been used in impactful ways to help keep the doors open for BGCT’s work with in-need youth. Last year the tournament raised $74,000, and in 2021 $66,000 went to the organization. Previous funds supported BGCT in a variety of areas, including programming such as sports and homework help, as well as the operational costs involved in keeping the lights on.
Cholla founders Diane and Tim Meyer are optimistic that with the right support they can beat their amount raised last year and set a new benchmark figure. BGCT staff as well as older Club youth will be onsite at the event, greeting people and volunteering.
Boilerplate: For 65 years the Boys & Girls Clubs of Tucson has helped keep thousands of local children involved in after school and summer programming. The six Clubhouse locations across the city of Tucsonoffer daily access to a broad range of programs in five core areas: Character and Leadership Development; Education and Career Development; Health & Life Skills; The Arts; and Sports, Fitness, and Recreation.
The organization currently serves youth ages 7-18. From its 2022 data, over 90% of the organization’s 2700 youth members served come from low-income households, 85% belong to traditionally underserved minority ethnicities/races, 72% qualify for free/reduced school lunches, and 45% live in single-parent homes.
Boys & Girls Clubs of Tucson is a qualifying charity for the Arizona Charitable Tax Credit (QCO 20282). With an operating budget of $4.4 million this year the organization relies heavily on support from the Tucson community to keep the doors open for its work with Tucson’s youth.

“Very simply, children are our future. Being able to help those children who need our help is so simple. To see the smiles on the faces of those children because they have a place to play, to learn, a warm meal, to thrive not just survive. Just as important is knowing the parent or parents, many working several jobs to make ends meet, know their children are safe and have all the above. Giving back is not an obligation, it’s a privilege. Team Cholla is honored to be part of a very bright future for these children.” -Diane and Tim Meyer
“Our longstanding partnership with Cholla Foundation has been one of the most rewarding experiences for us. Not only are we fortunate to be the beneficiaries of their incredible hard work and generosity, but their passion and enthusiasm for youth development is unmatched. Tim and Diane are a treasure, and it is an absolute delight that our youth are the proceeds recipients of this incredible event for the 8th year it has run.” -Denise Watters, CEO
