Vevo, the world’s leading music video network, announces the release of Demi Lovato’s Official Live Performance of “29” off her new album, HOLY FVCK, out now (listen HERE). Vevo’s Official Live Performances are the result of close creative collaboration with artists and their teams, resulting in a series of very special exclusive performances. Vevo and Demi Lovato have a long history working together, including a 2012 “Vevo Presents” set, 2017 Vevo x Demi Lovato performance of “Tell Me You Love Me,” and Footnotes videos of “SUBSTANCE,” “SKIN OF MY TEETH” and “Dancing With The Devil.”

Official Live Performances are the flagship original content for Vevo, working with the biggest names in music – they are the result of close creative collaboration with artists and their teams, resulting in a series of very special exclusive performances. Specifically tailored creatives meant to fit the vision of each individual artist chosen, these performances connect artists with their global audience of fans adding to their visual library.

“Our team has had the privilege of working with Demi for the past decade, and we were thrilled to bring our partnership to the next level with an Official Live Performance,” says JP Evangelista, Vevo’s SVP of Content, Programming & Marketing, “Demi’s artistry is truly unmatched, and she has carved out her place in the industry. We really dug into the creative with Demi and collaborated throughout the entire process, she was incredibly intentional with the vision for the set and how we could elevate the vibe of her new music. Working with such an involved artist makes all the difference in these partnerships, and we really feel that it shines through on screen. These edgy performances are truly all Demi and better than ever!”

Demi Lovato closely collaborated with Vevo’s team to create a completely bespoke set that allowed room for honesty and vulnerability. The intention of the performance space was to strike a balance between alluring and disorienting, clean and approachable. The camera pans in to find Demi on a red carpeted platform illuminated by a grid of bright white lights. Clad in a black leather skirt and black blouse, Demi stalks towards the camera, snarling and belting with her band supporting from the side.

“My new album HOLY FVCK is a deeply personal journey that begins with pain and anger, and through this emotional release, the album concludes in a hopeful place of joy that allows me to take my power back from the very things that made me angry,” Demi states. “I knew I wanted to showcase my new music in a unique way for my fans, both visually and sonically. So when an Original Live Performance with Vevo was on the table, I immediately started to brainstorm creatively – the lighting, the room design, my look and outfits, how to incorporate our incredible female live band – all of it! The Vevo team made this vision a reality with me, and I hope my fans can feel the emotion and power through these live performances.”

Additionally, Demi will bring the album to fans across South America and North America this Fall on the HOLY FVCK Tour. Fans can expect to hear new songs from the album as well as reimagined rock versions of Demi’s hits, including “Sorry Not Sorry,” “Cool for the Summer,” and more. THE BAND’S SEMINAL LIVE ALBUM, ROCK OF AGES, CELEBRATES 50TH ANNIVERSARY

UNRELEASED PHOTOS TAKEN BY CELEBRATED AND INFLUENTIAL PHOTOGRAPHER ERNST HAAS OF THE NEW YEAR’S EVE PERFORMANCE WITH SPECIAL GUEST BOB DYLAN UNVEILED

THE LEGENDARY CONCERTS COMMERORATED WITH NEWLY UPSCALED PERFORMANCE VIDEOS PLUS NEW LYRIC VIDEO

In celebration of the 50th anniversary of The Band’s seminal live album, Rock Of Ages, a series of never-before-seen photos taken by celebrated and influential photographer, Ernst Haas, of the legendary four-night stand at the Academy of Music in New York City during the final week of 1971, have been made available to view for the first time.

The beautifully shot color photos, from one of the pioneers of color photography, vividly capture the group of Rick Danko, Levon Helm, Garth Hudson, Richard Manuel, and Robbie Robertson in their prime on New Year’s Eve, 1971, joined by special guest Bob Dylan, who helped usher in the new year by performing with his longtime friends who once backed him as The Hawks when he went “electric” in 1965. Several of Haas’ photos were included in the Rock Of Ages album, released fifty years ago this week on August 15th, 1972, and additional shots were featured in the 2013 release, Live At The Academy Of Music 1971, an expansive box set that added a soundboard recording of the entire New Year’s Eve performance to newly mixed versions of the Rock Of Ages tracks.

Robbie Robertson said, “Bob Cato, The Band’s long standing album designer brought Ernst Haas to my attention. He spoke of Ernst as having a special gift with his use of color. He was the first single-artist show of color photography at New York’s Museum Of Modern Art. It would be unusual for Ernst to photograph a live concert but he agreed to shoot the Rock Of Ages shows. His pictures have depth and vibrate to the music and off the page. We were grateful and honored that Ernst Haas helped capture this event for The Band.”

Alex and Victoria Haas of The Ernst Haas Estate said, “We are thrilled about the rediscovery of these iconic photographs and are excited to share them with the world.”

In addition to the concert photos, several performance videos from the December 30th, 1971 show filmed by Howard Alk and Murray Lerner have been newly upscaled and are now available on YouTube for the first time along with a newly created lyric video for “The W.S. Walcott Medicine Show” from the same show.

The revitalized performances allow fans to experience the concert like never before and include “Don’t Do It,” a cover of Marvin Gaye’s “Baby Don’t You Do It,” written by Holland-Dozier-Holland, the Motown songwriting and production team of Brian and Eddie Holland and the late Lamont Dozier who passed away last week, and The Band’s classics, “King Harvest (Has Surely Come)” and “The W.S. Walcott Medicine Show.”

The former video was originally released on the 2005 anthology, The Band: A Musical History, while the latter two were released on the DVD included in the Live At The Academy Of Music 1971 box set. Writing in that album’s liner notes, Robertson provided some insight into the footage: “Filmmakers Howard Alk and Murray Lerner shot a few songs of the concert on the 30th. It was just an experiment, because to do a full shoot at the Academy you had to set it up with the Unions. I think some Union guys even showed up and threatened to destroy our equipment and break cameras if it wasn’t organized through them.”

Additionally, Rock Of Ages’ golden anniversary is being marked with a new line of merch including t-shirts, buttons, keychains and a poster.

The Band arrived at New York’s Academy Of Music in the final week of December 1971 energized following an incredibly successful European tour that exceeded all expectations, especially considering the combative reception they received when backing a plugged-in Bob Dylan on his infamous 1966 electric tour.

Having recently released their latest album Cahoots a few months earlier, their fourth LP in as many years, beginning with 1968’s game changing masterpiece, Music From Big Pink, and following with 1969’s self-titled opus and 1970’s bestselling, Stage Fright, The Band were firing on all cylinders and sought to document it. As Robertson recounts, “We hit a stride for playing well in our live performances, but more importantly: a pure pleasure of appreciating what each of us was doing. I thought we should capture this on tape, maybe even for a record.”

For the four-night stand, The Band enlisted legendary New Orleans songwriter, producer and arranger Allen Toussaint to write horn arrangements for several songs, following their fruitful collaboration on Cahoots album opener, “Life Is A Carnival.”

When Toussaint arrived in New York, he was dejected as someone had stolen his horn charts at the airport leaving him to start from scratch just days before rehearsals. Somehow, despite the setback and coming down with an ear infection, he was able to get the charts done in the eleventh hour. Horn player Howard Johnson (baritone sax, tuba, euphonium) and the band’s longtime friend and producer John Simon helped pull together a handful of crackerjack horn players for the festivities, which included Snooky Young (trumpet, flugelhorn), Joe Farrell (tenor sax, soprano sax, English horn), Earl McIntye (trombone) and J.D. Parron (alto sax, e flat clarinet). A remote recording van with 16-track tape machines was booked and Phil Ramone confirmed to engineer.

The Band played four remarkable concerts consisting of two sets a night; the first featuring The Band by themselves and the second set with the five-piece horn section. Each night was better than the next as The Band, Toussaint and the horn section gelled and Garth, Levon, Rick, Richard and Robbie showed off the breadth of what they could do and their remarkable catalog, including such standouts as “Up On Cripple Creek,” “Stage Fright,” “The Weight,” “King Harvest (Has Surely Come),” “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down,” “Across The Great Divide,” “The Shape I’m In” and some inspired covers like Marvin Gaye’s “Don’t Do It” and Chuck Willis’ “(I Don’t Want To) Hang Up My Rock And Roll Shoes.” The shows culminated early into the first hours of the newly ushered in year of 1972 with a special appearance by Bob Dylan who reunited with The Band for a four-song encore that climaxed with an exuberant performance of “Like A Rolling Stone.”

Writing about the shows, Robertson reflected, “Garth’s improvisation had no limits. His sounds and technique, no one in the world could touch him. He was so completely unique. Rick showed something during this period that I still don’t understand. While singing like a bird, he played a fretless bass… in an unorthodox style that worked against reason and normality. Richard was “in the zone” singing and playing as good as ever. Totally in control and making us cry with that voice. Levon showed up with a musical force that the rest of us leaned on to make the magic happen. He sang and played his heart out every one of those shows, and nailed it every night. All this gave me the freedom to play anything that felt good, ‘fearless abandon’ might be what they call it, and it also allowed me to develop signals and interplay with the horn section for certain dynamics.”

Select highlights from the concerts were compiled for The Band’s classic 1972 double LP, Rock Of Ages, which peaked at No. 6 on the Billboard 200 and remains a core album in the trailblazing group’s storied Capitol Records catalog. In 2013, all four of the concerts multitrack recordings were revisited for Live At The Academy Of Music 1971, providing a deep diver into the pioneering group’s stage prowess.

Upon its release in 1972, Rock Of Ages was met with widespread acclaim from fans and the music press alike. Music critic Ralph Gleason raved in Rolling Stone’s full-page review, “From the beginning to the end of side four, the entire side simply cooks with a crackling, roaring, swinging energy that leaves you breathless at the end. Rock & roll is surely here to stay if the Band has anything to do with it. Everybody take a bow!” Fifty years on, the album remains a defining, beloved statement of the band’s catalog. “Rock of Ages belongs on any short list of the best live albums ever committed to tape, while serving as a coda to the group’s groundbreaking influence on musicians on both sides of the Atlantic,” exclaimed Best Classic Bands in their appreciation while Ultimate Classic Rock simply called it a “revelation.”

The Band would fittingly draw the curtain on their time together with another legendary live show, The Last Waltz, but it’s Rock Of Ages that captured them at the apex of their career.

THEM to Release New Album ‘Fear City’

THEM to Release New Album ‘Fear City’
October 28th via Steamhammer/SPV

By way of explanation: New York City was often referred to as ‘Fear City’ in the early 1980s. At that time, illegal prostitution, protection rackets and drug trafficking thrived in the city which was notorious for its high crime and violence rates. For international power metal band Them, this made the perfect setting for the continuation of their trilogy surrounding main protagonist KK Fossor.

What was set in the 19th century on their first three album releases, ‘Sweet Hollow’ (2016), ‘Manor of the Se7en Gables’ (2018) and ‘Return to Hemmersmoor’ (2020), is continued on ‘Fear City’, albeit with a 120-year time shift featuring descendants of the original characters. “In a nutshell: KK Fossor is trying to find the descendant of the Witchhunter, who works as a televangelist under the name of Mister Thompson in 1981 New York,” explains Markus Ullrich, the band’s German guitarist and creative mastermind.

‘Fear City’ will be released October 28, 2022 on Steamhammer/SPV, preceded by two lead singles: August 19 will see the arrival of ‘‘Welcome To Fear City’’, supported by an amazing video clip. “Retro 54” is set to follow six weeks later on September 30.

This exciting mélange of horror and fantasy story is flanked by the usual dynamic songs mixing a hybrid of raw metal riffs, complex and frequently fast-paced grooves and surprisingly catchy chorus parts.

Markus Ullrich:
“This is a special feature with Them. We play hard, technically accomplished guitar parts, combined with a solid basic toughness, yet we don’t just bark out the chorus, but sing it very melodically. Some songs on ‘Fear City’ are even heavier than expected, you could say: They really let rip! But our singer is fantastic and our songs make purposeful forays into a wide range of different stylistic directions.”

As usual, ‘Fear City’ succeeds in transporting its listeners to a different, fictional world, in this case, the year 1981. “We’ve deliberately included keyboard sounds, little radio play snippets and cross-references to the 1980s,” explains Ullrich, who has first-rate musicians by his side, namely: vocalist KK Fossor, guitarist Markus Johansson(Sylencer, 4ARM), bassist Alexander Palma and keyboardist Richie Seibel (Lanfear, Ivanhoe), and only had to enlist a new drummer in Steve Bolognese (ex-Witherfall, Into Eternity) due to the lockdown caused by the pandemic. As on the previous albums, American sound mastermind Dave Otero was in charge of the mix and drum recordings at his Flatline Audio studio in Denver, Colorado.

‘Fear City’ will be released as a CD DigiPak version, LP green vinyl version,

THE DAY THE MUSIC DIED: THE STORY OF DON McLEAN’S “AMERICAN PIE”

NEW YORK – THE DAY THE MUSIC DIED: THE STORY OF DON McLEAN’S “AMERICAN PIE” launched Tuesday, July 19 on Paramount+, both in the U.S. and internationally where the service is available.

With a narrative running deeper than a catchy tune and cryptic verses, “American Pie” is a musical phenomenon woven deep into the history of American culture, entertaining audiences around the world for over 50 years.

In THE DAY THE MUSIC DIED: THE STORY OF DON McLEAN’S “AMERICAN PIE,” McLean powerfully reveals and shares the secrets behind his iconic song. In addition, the documentary highlights cultural moments in America’s history that are as relevant now as they were in 1971 when the song was released. The film tells stories of the people who were a part of this moment from the beginning and shows the point of view of a new generation of artists who are motivated by the same values and ideas that inspired the song’s creation.

“This documentary is something that will make people think, especially since so many throughout the years have asked me what certain lyrics meant or whom I was referring to, but now I finally can solve many of those mysteries,” says McLean. “Everyone from Madonna to Garth Brooks to Weird Al Yankovic has recorded ‘American Pie’ and made it their own. So many people have their own interpretation of the song, and I love it.”

“Not only is “American Pie” one of the most universally known songs of all time, it also represents a significant piece of musical history and a pivotal moment in American culture. It’s a story that needs to be told and we’re excited to have THE DAY THE MUSIC DIED take fans deeper into its making, finally put to rest the speculation behind its lyrics, and hear from today’s biggest artists – both legends and future stars – who it has personally influenced,” said Bruce Gillmer, President of Music, Music Talent, Programming and Events, Paramount, and Chief Content Officer, Music, Paramount+. “A global sensation deserves a global launch and we’re thrilled to add this film to Paramount+’s unmatched portfolio of premiere music content.”

To help bring the documentary to life, McLean enlisted music producer and songwriter Spencer Proffer, CEO of media production company Meteor 17. In a collaborative vision, Proffer and McLean tell the story of this special and unique song by using contemporary audio/visual storytelling techniques to artistically reimagine the music for a modern audience.

“There are interchanges with all stripes of people from many walks of life, including major celebrities, music icons, current breaking artists, and industry leaders,” said Proffer. “The film explores what ‘American Pie’ meant to people then, what it means to them now, and what it will mean to generations in the future.”

THE DAY THE MUSIC DIED: THE STORY OF DON MCLEAN’S “AMERICAN PIE” is produced by Spencer Proffer and executive produced by Bruce Gillmer.

His catalog of songs has been recorded by Madonna, Garth Brooks, Josh Groban, Drake, “Weird Al” Yankovic and countless others.

Highlights from this show to be added to Aerosmith’s YouTube channel on August 27 will be: “Crazy,” “Dream On” and “I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing.”

In addition, Aerosmith – 1971: The Road Starts Hear (UMe) is now available globally on CD and vinyl LP and can now be streamed, HERE. This rare recording from 1971 was recently discovered in Aerosmith’s Vindaloo Vaults and was originally only available as a limited-edition cassette and vinyl release for Record Store Day in 2021. The heavily sought-after RSD release quickly sold out and debuted on the Billboard 200, hitting No. 2 on the Top Hard Rock Albums chart, No. 12 on the Top Rock Albums chart, No. 13 on the Vinyl Albums chart, and No. 19 on the Top Album Sales chart. In addition, the band’s official online store now features a new 1971 collection of exclusive merchandise, available HERE.

Celebrating their 50th anniversary, Rock & Roll Hall of Fame members Aerosmith have sold more than 150 million albums around the world, produced genre-defining music videos such as “Amazing,” “Crazy,” “Janie’s Got A Gun,” “Livin’ On The Edge,” and “Love In An Elevator,” and launched extravagant record-shattering global tours, most recently with their smash hit Las Vegas residency. The band has broken numerous boundaries, including becoming the first rock band with a massive commercially successful hip-hop collaboration with Run DMC on “Walk This Way” and the first hard rock band to appear during a Super Bowl Halftime Show with their 2001 performance, and in 1999, Aerosmith became the first band to have their own themed attraction at Disney World in Florida and later Paris with the launch of the Rock ‘N’ Roller coaster starring Aerosmith.

Running Out Of Tomorrows is a song that looks at where the world is today in terms of Race relationships, Income inequity, Climate change as well as political differences and just asks the question of “Why can’t we as reasonable people come together and change the way we look at things” because we are running out of tomorrows to affect change.

Collaborations is a project that brings a diverse group of talented Indie Artists together to collaborate on an eclectic group of songs. They have taken a unique approach to songwriting in that the artists are given a high-level structure and theme for a song and then asked to make it into something of their own. This is facilitated by their producer Viv Steffens at Horizon Music Studios to ensure the musicians have some guardrails for the creation of an end product. They have found that this approach allows the Artist to explore beyond where they may have gone on their own with a particular concept. It is an ongoing project where numerous singer/songwriters and musicians with various styles come together to create multi-genre songs that span the range from current pop to retro-sounding compositions. In this approach the project is really never done. By taking this approach it allows the singer/songwriters the flexibility to participate at whatever level works for them without interfering with their own careers and schedules. It also gives Collaborations the ability to attract the best artists with the wide variety of styles that is required to create a truly cross-genre set of songs at the highest quality.

KRIS KRISTOFFERSON TO RELEASE LIVE AT GILLEY’S

KRIS KRISTOFFERSON TO RELEASE LIVE AT GILLEY’S – PASADENA, TX: SEPTEMBER 15, 1981, SEPTEMBER 2nd VIA NEW WEST RECORDS

FEATURING LINER NOTES WRITTEN BY MICKEY GILLEY, GEORGE STRAIT, AND BILLY SWAN

SHARES LIVE RECORDING OF “ME AND BOBBY McGEE”

Kris Kristofferson will release Live at Gilley’s – Pasadena, TX: September 15, 1981 on September 2nd via New West Records. The previously unreleased & unheard 15-song set was the final date of Kristofferson’s 1981 tour and was recorded at the legendary Pasadena, TX honky tonk most well known for its role in the 1980 film Urban Cowboy. Kristofferson is backed by an incredible live band featuring Stephen Bruton, Billy Swan, Donnie Fritts, Tommy McClure, Glen Clark, and Sammy Creason. The album also features exclusive liner notes written by the country music legend & Gilley’s co-owner Mickey Gilley, as well as additional pieces written by the legendary George Strait, and Billy Swan.

Today, The Boot shared the concert’s lead off song, saying “As Kristofferson rolls through ‘Me and Bobby McGee,’ the energy in the room is palpable, with waves of screams from the exhilarated crowd audible throughout the rollicking performance. Although the song has taken on a life of its own over the decades, Kristofferson’s fiery performance from the Gilley’s stage showcases his electrifying and unequivocal level of artistry.”

From his liner notes written three months before his passing in May, Mickey Gilley offered, “Gilley’s could hold several thousand people, but the club was very intimate. You were right there on the stage with people all around you. You could bend down and shake hands with people.”

He continued, “Right next to the club was the recording studio, and we recorded everything that was done onstage. We could record onto the 24-track machine that we had in the studio, then we would do the mixing…We booked a lot of shows around that time, including some people I didn’t think would want to play the club. We got some acts that made me think, ‘Are you kidding me?’…Kris Kristofferson was one of those artists that I didn’t think would want to play Gilley’s, because he was such a big name and a tremendous talent.”

George Strait exclaimed, “What a great album this is! Classic Kristofferson songs throughout, and live!! Kris was in his prime and his vocals were outstanding and very soulful as always. I got to play Gilley’s a few times back in those days and this record takes me right back there. You can tell the crowd is loving him and he’s loving them right back. That’s what it’s all about. It was an exciting time to say the least. So close your eyes and listen to this record. Imagine you’re right there standing in front of the stage with the man himself looking right at you. I think you’ll get a really good idea of what Gilley’s was like back then when Kris played there. What a treat that must’ve been.”

Kris Kristofferson Live at Gilley’s – Pasadena, TX: September 15, 1981 will be available across digital platforms, on compact disc, and standard black vinyl. A very limited to 300 White Vinyl Edition will be available exclusively at Texas Retailers while a limited, foil stamped and numbered to 750, Opaque Metallic Silver Vinyl Edition will be available via Vinyl Me, Please.
