Join the Southern Arizona Arts & Cultural Alliance for a day of community, culture, culinary arts and classic cars. The return of the 13th annual Cruise, BBQ & Blues will bring together some of the finest BBQ from local chefs, community arts experiences, and live music on the main stage.

The time, patience and love it takes to cultivate a work of art is no different when on canvas or in the design of an automobile. Behind each vehicle there is a story, and over 130 classic car owners will converge in Oro Valley this month to share those stories.

The festival is proudly sponsored by Hughes Federal Credit Union, the Town of Oro Valley.

The annual Cruise, BBQ & Blues Festival, one of the area’s premiere events of its kind will mark its 13th year of drawing spectators throughout the region to see hundreds of classic and custom cars while supporting Veterans.

In addition to the hundreds of classic, muscle, sports and specialty cars, the event will feature fun activities and children’s activities, live musical performances, vendors, and a BBQ food court.

All proceeds benefit the Southern Arizona Arts & Cultural Alliance, a non-profit organization dedicated to the advancement, preservation and creation of the arts. The car show is the organization’s primary Winter fundraising community event.

WHAT TO EXPECT AT THE FESTIVAL

ACTIVITIES & ENTERTAINMENT

Adding a soulful atmosphere to the event live blues music will captivate audiences with renditions of blues greats. The main stage will feature three bands throughout the day. A tribute style salute to our Veterans will kick off the award festivities, with the star spangled banner, and a presentation of the color guard.

10:00 AM – 11:15 AM
PAUL GREEN & MIDNIGHT BLUE

Paul has been a performing musician since his teens. Both an award winning blues artist and a jazz vocalist, he was inducted into the Washington State Blues Society Hall Of Fame, and the annual Best Blues Harmonica Award was named after him by that same organization. In 2017, the Blues Society presented Paul with their Lifetime Achievement Award. His most recent CD released on the Pony Boy Jazz label, Creativity, is made up entirely of his original lyrics set to jazz instrumental melodies, a style known as Vocalese. His unique vocal and harmonica style have won him praise from both fans and fellow musicians alike. In September 2017, Paul relocated to Tucson where he continues to appear in clubs and concerts throughout the region. He has teamed up with the cream of Tucson to form this new band.

WHOSE BLUES
It’s taken a while to put together this ‘right’ blues combo but now that we’re cookin’ we’re ready play some funky, laid back, mellow, raucous (choose your favorite when you come and see us) blues.

Jim (JD) Nashu brings his sweet/sultry/incisive lead guitar licks to Whose Blues. His playing can subtly complement a song when it’s called for but will also deliver a searing, gritty tonality that is the definition of blues guitar. Jim also adds his vocal dynamics to the song list. Rich Bonner adds his tasteful, almost jazz tinged drumming style to the band.

His percussive undercurrent provides smooth bluesy rhythms that underscore the band’s trademark sound. TK (Terrence Kelly) sings and plays harmonica for Whose Blues. His smooth vocals contain a hint of the classic whiskey-soaked burn that is the hallmark of the blues. His intricate, sometimes reserved, sometimes brash harp playing mimics his rich singing and is intrinsic to the Whose Blues sound. Bassist Scott Lukomski holds it all down on the rhythm. You’ll hear upbeat danceable stuff and hardcore slow blues!

SURF-SONICS

Meet the Surf-Sonics! Featuring surf instrumental songs of the 1960’s by the Ventures, the Surfaris, Dick Dale and the Del Tones- the group also performs rock and roll tunes with car themes by Chuck Berry, Link Ray and the Beach Boys,- Little Deuce Coupe, Hot Rod Lincoln, Route 66, and much more! Surf-Sonics is a four-piece classic rock band fronted by Arizona hall of fame musician Mike Hebert (guitar and keyboards) and Mike Yarema (vocals). We invite car clubs and owners of classic rides to come take part in this car show and live music concert event. For some of us its all about…the Cars and Guitars!
