AlpinFilm: The Untamed Spirit of American Mountaineering

January 17 @ 6:30 pm - January 18 @ 10:00 pm MST

Jackson Hole, WY – AlpinFilm, Jackson Hole’s own mountain film festival, returns January 17-18, 2025, for a weekend of powerful storytelling and breathtaking adventure. This hybrid festival brings together climbers, skiers, and outdoor enthusiasts to share stories of grit, triumph, and the mountains that inspire us all.

Now in its third year, AlpinFilm features three U.S. premieres alongside a stunning selection of films from around the globe. With a mix of local and international stories, the festival explores the challenges, joys, and deep connection we feel to wild places.

“We’ve got films from all around the world and films from right here at home,” says Marcy Melville, event organizer and member of the Teton Climbers’ Coalition. “It’s a celebration of why we climb, why we tell stories, and why we’re drawn to the wild.”

This year’s lineup includes:

Yamnuska (Canada, 67 min): A breathtaking journey through one of Canada’s most iconic cliffs, blending humor, history, and unforgettable visuals. (U.S. premiere)

Body of a Line (USA, 10 min): A beautifully animated documentary about Madaleine Sorkin’s bold ascent of Longs Peak’s Dunn-Westbay Direct.

Keep It Burning (Spain, 32 min): Edu Marín’s daring attempt to free climb the Eternal Flame route on the Karakoram’s Nameless Tower. (U.S. premiere)

Two Point Four (UK, 20 min): Leo Houlding, his wife, and their two children take on a 2,000-foot big wall climb in Norway.

While the festival takes place at the Jackson Hole Center for the Arts, a virtual option allows audiences far and wide to tune in. Whether watching in person or online, viewers will be transported into the heart of the mountains through films that inspire, challenge, and move us.

Proceeds from AlpinFilm directly support the Teton Climbers’ Coalition, a non-profit working to make climbing safer and more accessible. Funds help sustain programs like the Safe Climbing Initiative, which provides free and low-cost safety courses, and the Climbing Area Modernization Project, which replaces outdated climbing gear in popular areas.

“It’s a love letter to the mountains we call home—and to all the others waiting to be climbed,” Melville adds.
