Blood Emergency: Vitalant Supply Falls by Nearly 50%
Blood Drives: Casa Grande, Coolidge, Eloy, Florence, Maricopa, Oro Valley & Tucson
Continued strong patient needs for blood have depleted Vitalant’s supply by nearly 50% since the start of summer, creating an emergency shortage in Arizona and across the country. All eligible donors are urged to schedule an appointment to donate blood now for the coming days and weeks, especially around the Labor Day holiday when donations are expected to drop by as much as 25%. While donors of all blood types are needed, the emergency shortage is acute for Type-O, the most transfused blood type. To check eligibility criteria, make an appointment and help save lives, please visit vitalant.org, download and use the Vitalant app or call 877-25-VITAL (877-258-4825).
Donors who were previously deferred from donating because of travel to European countries due to risk of variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, also known as mad cow disease, are now eligible to donate due to a change in FDA requirements.
