Impactful Back to School Drive

August 8, 2023 @ 8:00 am - August 25, 2023 @ 5:00 pm MST

Boys & Girls Clubs of Tucson Partners with Precious Metals Refinery on Impactful Back to School Drive

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Tucson is partnering with Precious Metals Refinery (PMR) to support its Back-to-School Drive. At seven locations across Tucson PMR will be setting up donation drop off locations where members of the public can donate impactful school supplies such as backpacks, notebooks, pencils, calculators, markers, crayons, gluesticks, and more. For health and safety reasons the organization is requesting that all donated items be new and unopened.

The Back-to-School drive is one of the most impactful initiatives the Boys & Girls Clubs of Tucson holds yearly. More than 90% of the youth served by the organization come from low-income households, as measured by federal and state poverty guidelines, and are especially at risk of failing to graduate or perform at their grade level. By equipping them to thrive in classes the Back-to-School drive contributes to the organization’s yearly statistics of more than 90% of enrolled members graduating high school and performing at grade level.

The Back-to-School Drive will run until August 25th. Dropoff locations for PMR are: 4403 E. Speedway Blvd.; 2120 W. Grant Rd.; 7069 E. Tanque Verde Rd.; 8140 S. Houghton Rd. #100; 190 W. Continental Rd. Suite 222; 12050 N. Thornydale Rd.; and 5040 N. Oracle Rd.

Those interested in supporting the Boys & Girls Clubs of Tucson but not able to drop off items can make a tax-deductible donation to the organization at BGCTucson.org.

“Education is the cornerstone of a great future. By setting them up for success we can give these youth every means necessary to overcome the daily challenges they face. It’s both a testament to our mission as well as the incredible generosity of our Tucson community that every year this drive makes such a difference in the lives of so many youth. We encourage everyone to give what they can: no gift is too small or large when the need is this profound.” Adam Begody, Chief Development & Marketing Officer, Boys & Girls Clubs of Tucson

“For 65 years we have carried the torch for our mission, which is to provide every youth, no matter how great their struggle, with the tools needed to succeed and thrive in life. A backpack isn’t just cloth and zippers: it’s a symbol of potential, of the hopes and dreams that await every youth if they just have the opportunity to walk that path. It takes a village to ensure that no youth falls behind, and this drive is an opportunity for us all to place the tools for success directly into the hands of those who need it most.” -Denise Watters, Chief Executive Officer, Boys & Girls Clubs of Tucson

For 65 years the Boys & Girls Clubs of Tucson has helped keep thousands of local children involved in after school and summer programming. The six Clubhouse locations across the city of Tucson offer daily access to a broad range of programs in five core areas: Character and Leadership Development; Education and Career Development; Health & Life Skills; The Arts; and Sports, Fitness, and Recreation. The organization currently serves youth ages 7-18. From its 2022 data, over 90% of the organization’s 3800 youth members served come from low-income households, 85% identify as a minority, 72% qualify for free/reduced school lunches, and 47% live in single-parent homes.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Tucson is a qualifying charity for the Arizona Charitable Tax Credit (QCO 20282). With an operating budget of $4.4 million this year the organization relies heavily on support from the Tucson community to keep the doors open for its work with Tucson’s youth.
