here.
Following on from the recent “Bad Boys” featuring Rebecca Black and sooyeon, the bouncy “Back In My Bed” is the latest taste of music from Jax Jones new era coined Y2J!. Celebrating maximalist subculture, this track exemplifies Jax’s collaborative spirit connecting him with emerging talent MEYYwhere she offers up her sugar-coated vocals on Jones’ evolved faster, harder production infused with elements of the future sounds of bubblegum hyperpop as well as the timeless sound of the Y2K dance club era.
MEYY’s versatility and pop sensibility is proven again with her feature on “Back In My Bed,” this upbeat anthem sees her delve into Jones’ world of fresh and playful melodic sounds. MEYY says, “It is so cool to see Jax’ energy in the studio – it’s very exciting, bright and just incredibly genuine. I can tell he sincerely loves music, and he displays it in such a playful way. I think this playfulness is so well reflected in the song and y2j in general – it’s contagious. ‘Back In My Bed” is such an undeniable bop – i love being part of songs that feel like this. I always admire artists like Jax Jones who have projects of this scale who keep their curiosity alive in their music and challenge their listeners especially when collabing with more upcoming artists like myself. I think it’s such an important part of keeping the musical ecosystem exciting and new, but in the most organic way.”
Reflecting his expanded worldview through curiosity, exploration, and personal growth, this single offers another glimpse into a new chapter of collaborations and bold ideas informed by his identity and discovery of global cultures since relocating to Bangkok. The Y2J! era is Jax’s turn-of-the-millennium-inspired journey into vibrant sonic landscapes that are both nostalgic and forward-thinking. Y2J! fuses the euphoric energy of early 2000s clubland with the intensity of Southeast Asia’s booming underground electronic music scene. Drawing inspiration from the high-energy pulse of Dance Dance Revolution, Y2J!bridges global sounds, blending festival anthems with basement rave energy while paying homage to his East-meets-West upbringing.
At its heart, the Y2J! era is deeply tied to Jax’s heritage and story. Growing up, he was influenced by the R&B, hip-hop, and dancehall played by his Nigerian stepfather and the summers spent in Penang with his Malaysian-Chinese family, where he bonded with his gong gong (grandfather) over local food and spent hours creating music. These experiences instilled a love for multi-genre music-making rooted in his identity. Through the Y2J!, Jax honors this legacy while carving out new pathways for cross-cultural exchange.
Y2J! marks the beginning of a new chapter for Jax Jones, this era is about breaking the rules, having fun and championing the power of collaboration to create something truly fresh, already receiving “Bad Boys” remixes from one of Berlin’s biggest players in the electronic scene MCR-T and budots pioneer DJ Love. From London to Penang to Bangkok, music for the main stages and for underground raves, Y2J! is a testament to an artist embracing his global influences and lived experiences to push his music – and himself – further than ever
