Morris Day & The Time!

September 4, 2021 @ 8:00 pm - 11:00 pm MST

Morris Day & The Time!
New date: Saturday, September 4th

PHOENIX, AZ – Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Morris Day & The Time’s rescheduled concert moved to 8 p.m. on Saturday, September 4th. Previously purchased tickets will be honored on the new date.

After more than a year of pandemic restrictions, Pimpadelic funk master Morris Day is primed to do what he does best: generate infectious music that makes people get up and move. Backed by the Time’s rock-influenced funk jams, flashback to 1983, when a movie called Purple Rain was king and helped propel this band to the forefront. Day won fans with his exaggerated vanity and strutting bravado, acting as a comic foil to Prince’s romantic, sensitive lead. This persona was further exploited for comic effect on The Time’s records, on songs such as “Chili Sauce” and “If The Kid Can’t Make You Come” from the album Ice Cream Castle. That album, the group’s most popular, is best remembered for the catchy dance singles “Jungle Love” and “The Bird.” Both songs were huge hits on Urban and Pop radio, but it wasn’t until 1990 that the Time scored a #1 R&B hit with “Jerk Out,” a dance/New Jack Swing cut from their fourth album Pandemonium. Day launched a solo career in 1984 and scored the chart-topping R&B tune “Fishnet.” He returned to perform with the Time in 1988. Today, Morris Day remains a popular concert draw, fronting a revamped lineup of The Time.

Born in Minneapolis, Day went to school with the late Prince Rogers Nelson and sang in Prince’s first band Grand Central. The Time was originally created as Prince’s alter-ego. After looking at several lead vocalists, Prince wanted someone with mad talent, so he cast his high school friend– the funky, the fabulous Morris Day. Morris Day & The Time were part of the tribute to Prince at the 2017 Grammy Awards.

In addition to his role in Purple Rain, day also appeared in a number of other movies such as Graffiti Bridge, Richard Pryor’s Moving, the Andrew Dice Clay film The Adventures of Ford Fairlane, and Kevin Smith’s Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, performing “Jungle Love” with The Time and dancing with the movie’s stars in the movie’s coda.

Doors open at 6 p.m. Tickets: $35, $55, $75 and $125 VIP (includes one premium reserved ticket in the first 8 rows). Tickets are on sale now at www.celebritytheatre.com. Celebrity Theatre’s Box Office remains closed until further notice. All tickets are subject to sales tax, ticketing and facility fees. All ages welcome.
