Grammy winning singer/songwriter/author/actor Rick Springfield has a busy summer planned. In honor of the 40th anniversary of his biggest selling and most memorable album to date, Working Class Dog, the ’80s icon has invited fellow superstars Grammy winners Men At Work to co-headline the bill with special guest, John Waite, on an 18-date concert tour. The tour kicks off August 5th in St. Augustine, Florida and makes stops across America including dates in Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, Atlantic City, Las Vegas, Phoenix, and Los Angeles (tour dates listed below).
Working Class Dog was released in 1981 and sent Springfield into superstardom with the smash hit songs “I’ve Done Everything For You,” “Love Is Alright Tonite” and the global chart topper “Jessie’s Girl.” He went on to sell over 40 million albums and score a breathtaking 17 top 40 hits including “Don’t Talk To Strangers,” “Affair Of The Heart,” “Celebrate Youth,” “Love Somebody” and “Human Touch” in his stellar 41+ year career.
The tour is presented by Sirius XM’s ‘80s on 8. Springfield is also a member of the SiriusXM family with his popular weekly radio show Working Class DJ on SiriusXM’s ‘80s On 8 channel. An exclusive interview with Springfield, Colin Hay (front man of Men At Work), and John Waite by original MTV-VJ and SiriusXM host Mark Goodman was aired today on SiriusXM’s Volume channel.
Springfield says, “Colin, John and I were joking before the interview about the fact that we’re all immigrants to America. We all have lived in California for many years. In fact, we’ve nicknamed this tour “Wild Colonial Boys” and I can’t wait to travel and perform with these magnificent musicians and good friends.” Hay is originally from Scotland, however, he formed Men At Work in Melbourne, Australia. Springfield was born and raised in Melbourne. Waite hails from Leicester, England.
Grammy winners Men At Work are arguably one of the biggest bands of the ‘80s selling over 30 million albums worldwide and scoring two #1 singles in the US (“Down Under” and “Who Can It Be Now”); and three others in the Top 10 (“Be Good Johnny,” “Overkill” and “It’s A Mistake.”) The tour celebrates the 40th anniversary of the band’s debut album Business As Usual and is the first extensive tour of the US in over 20 years.
John Waite, another giant MTV-era star, has enjoyed massive success not only as a solo artist with the hits “Missing You” (#1) and “Change “ (Top 10) but also as the lead singer of the highly influential power pop band The Babys, as well as the supergroup Bad English. The Babys are best known for the hit songs “Isn’t It Time” and “Every time I Think Of You,” while Bad English scored a #1 hit with “When I See You Smile.”
