Sahuarita Art on the Lake Festival returns on January 13th at the Sahuarita Lake Park from 10 AM – 4 PM., featuring large-scale interactive REFLECTIONS-themed art installations, live music, and food
The Southern Arizona Arts & Cultural Alliance and the Town of Sahuarita invite the public to enjoy the second annual Sahuarita Art on the Lake Festival. This one-day arts festival brings interactive and performance art to Sahuarita Lake Park while celebrating new art installations.
The 2024-themed event will encompass the idea of REFLECTION, encouraging attendees to explore personal and creative reflection, conscientious art-making, and multi-cultural and generational community performances. Attendees are encouraged to participate in the many immersive arts experiences featured at the festival.
The one-day-only art festival will feature an ongoing theme of REFLECTIONS, including a large-scale mirror ball floating art installation, the 2024 “Reflections” Sahuarita Photography Competition kickoff, live mural painting, and diverse high-caliber entertainment. Attendees will be surrounded with unique arts experiences including street painting, arts and crafts activities, plein air painting, performance art, the community chalk mural competition, food trucks, and live music.
The Sahuarita Art on the Lake Festival is a free, family-friendly event where visitors can engage in high-quality arts experiences spanning multiple mediums. This includes main stage performances from Ballet Folklorico Tapatio, Tucson Sino Dance, Celtic Steps, the Tucson Chinese Cultural Center’s Lion Dance, Odaiko Sonora drumming, and more. Colorful art installations include the unveiling of a new 50-foot mural by Tony Plak at the park, an interactive “Post-it” community mural with local artist Pen Macias, and an augmented reality mural wall by Isaac Caruso. VESSEL brings an atmospheric performance of their colorful costumed performance.
Attendees will have the chance to start the year by shopping local at the festival, where several of the region’s best artists in woodworking, mixed media, jewelry, metal sculpting, photography and more will be selling their unique works of art. The event features several local food vendors, including BlackJack Citrus Infusions, Greater Faith World Church (BBQ), Moreno’s Roasted Corn, Mr. Ice Guy (Italian Ice), and Springtide Catering.
At the festival’s 2024 Community Chalk Art Competition, community members are encouraged to create their own chalk art inspired by the day’s festivities! Participants can sign up at the event to create their own signature mural onsite. Chalk and supplies will be provided onsite. Three community winners will be chosen at 3:30 PM in multiple categories and recognized on social media and receive a $100 gift card.
Kids activities are programmed by several local creative-centered businesses including SEE Create Art, Team Studio Create, and the Civic Orchestra of Tucson. The Comic BookMobile will bring a personalized show for kids with a live-action human cartoon character. Frank Powers teaches the simple shapes hidden in cartooning as well as the sequence of a good panel-to-panel story for comic books and comic strips!
