Join Karen Krebbs, who has studied bats for more than 35 years and is a WNP research grant recipient, for a fascinating discussion of the world’s old flying mammals.
Learn how bats use echolocation, why they hibernate, what they eat, and why they are important to our ecosystems. She will share updates from her long-term research conducted in Chiricahua National Monument, Coronado National Monument, and Fort Bowie National Historic Site. Her book, Bat Basics: How to Understand and Help These Amazing Flying Mammals, will be available for purchase.

Join Arizona-Sonora Desert Museumstaff for this special family-friendlylive animal presentation about reptiles! Learn about the lizards, tortoises, and snakes of the Sonoran Desert. Get up close and personal with a live animal ambassador. Discover their strategies for movement, defense, and feeding, and how they have adapted to desert life. Registration required. Space is limited to 60 registrants.

Come join us for the fourth and final film in our Junior Ranger Summer Film Series! “Laws of the Lizard”, is a Smithsonian Channel live-action nature documentary about the anole lizard and its special adaptations. Dr. Yolonda Youngs returns to Tucson to share insights and highlights from her recent book, Framing Nature: The Creation of an American Icon at the Grand Canyon (2024). Learn how the park’s environment has changed over 150 years and the importance of preserving and protecting this special place.Dr. Youngs is a Professor in the Department of Geography and Environmental Studies at California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB), and was one of WNP’s featured authors at the 2025 Tucson Festival of Books. Book signing will follow the talk. The book, complete with stunning photographs and historic maps of the Grand Canyon and Colorado River, is available for purchase at The National Park Store. Registration required. The Juan Bautista de Anza National Historic Trail commemorates the histories and landscapes of the Anza colonizing expedition of 1775-1776.The trail and its tributaries have existed for millennia as Indigenous pathways, and today, our modern freeways and web of urban infrastructure overlay the same routes. Each path in this wide network holds many stories. Join NPS Ranger Christopher Bentleyfor a journey along the Anza Trail, 250 years after the expedition. Learn the trail’s many stories and how it continues to connect us to the land, the past, and one another. Registration required. Space is limited to 60 registrants.
