Choral singers all over the world had to hunker down in isolation for over two years as the Covid wave made gathering in person impossible for both singers and audiences. As we emerge from the restrictions needed during this time, singers everywhere are joyful and thankful.
The members of Tucson Desert Harmony in Tucson, AZ are no exception. They were thrilled to get an invitation earlier this year to compete in the 74th Annual Sweet Adelines Competition and Convention which will be held September 12-17, 2022 in Phoenix, AZ. The field competing represent 27 choruses from Sweden, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the UK and the US.
“This chorus is motivated and they are singing very well,” says Kim Vaughn, who coached the group in mid August. Vaughn is one of the internationally recognized Sweet Adelines International faculty who has worked with the chorus as they prepare.
Tucson Desert Harmony is directed by Karen Meade, who has been active with the chapter since it was chartered in 1986. She has served the group in many capacities and became the front line director in 2010.
Golden West Region 21 encompasses 15 choruses in the Sweet Adeline universe located in Hawaii, California, Arizona and New Mexico.
