Join Us This Saturday as we explore the Korean War and watch the F-86F “Sabre” Take to the Skies
It has been called “The Forgotten War,” but to most of us, it really is the “unknown war.” Fought exactly 70 years ago, it tragically took a heavy toll in lives and resulted in a stalemate that continues to this day.
Join us this Saturday, January 8, 2022 as we present “Hangar Talk: the Planes of Fame Air Museum Live Magazine” with its focus on the Korean War of 1950 – 1953.
Presentations will look closely at the war, from its dramatic shifts in territory to its ultimate stagnation. We’ll explore the root causes of the war, the larger than life personalities involved, and talk about some of the gut-wrenching fighting and moving acts of heroism. We’ll pay particular attention to the air war over Korea, including the air-to-air combat that took place over the area known as “MiG Alley.”
Following the presentations, we proudly present our “Flying Demo” for January as the Museum’s own North American F-86F “Sabre” jet will take to the skies to the delight of everyone. One of only a handful of F-86 aircraft that still fly, visitors to the Museum will get an upclose look as the aircraft fires up its powerful J-47 Turbojet engine. The aircraft will then taxi away and fly over the Museum for approximately 20 minutes. Upon its return, guests can interact and ask questions of the Sabrejet’s pilot.
Doors to the Museum open at 10:00am and the “Hangar Talk” presentations beging at 10:30am and last until noon. The F-86 engine start will be at 12:15pm followed by the flight and Q&A with the pilot.
We’ll feature on-site Coffee & Smoothie service, tacos, and many other activities. Hope to see you there!
