Finishing off the summer blockbuster September 3D fall films

Movie releases in the US, UK, Canada, Germany, India, Japan

The 2010 summer movie season winds up with the release of Step Up 3D. Each month, a new 3D film is anticipated for release. These 3D movies will be soon released for 3D home entertainment.

Red Dawn' remake. Josh Peck and Adrianne Palicki have been cast in MGM/UA's remake of "Red Dawn," set to begin filming in September. They join the already cast Chris Hemsworth in the story of a group of teenagers who form an impromptu insurgency when their town is invaded by Chinese and Russian soldiers.

Eat, Pray, Love. Julia Roberts gorge herself in Italy (lots of exciting close ups of spaghetti), hang out with Richard Jenkins in Indian (they’re in an Ashram but spiritual experiences are limited to stern lectures from Jenkins, who thinks he’s in rehab) and then she flies off to Bali to have her fortune told by someone who forgot he’d told her to come back the year before. Watch movie trailer and read movie reviews of Eat, Pray, Love.

US: September 2010 Upcoming Autumn Films

These new films are opening in the United States on these dates in September. Release dates may change. Check for other international opening dates.

September 1: The American. An assassin hides out in Italy for one last assignment. Focus Features. Rated R.

September 3: Born to be a Star. Sony Pictures.

September 3: Going the Distance Erin's (Drew Barrymore) wry wit and unfiltered frankness charm newly single Garrett (Justin Long) over beer, bar trivia and breakfast the next morning. Warner Bros.

Mesrine. Jacques Mesrine was a French international gangster who was gunned down in 1979 by a police unit set-up solely to eliminate him, thus guaranteeing he would become one of history’s criminal icons and ensuring his robberies, murders and prison breaks would one day become legendary. And as French exports go, this renegade is definitely up there with the Camembert, Pinot Noir and fries.  US Release date 3rd September of Mesrine: Public Enemy No. 1 (Part 2). UK DVD release date 25th January, 2010. Based on the book ‘L’instinct de Mort’ by Jacques Mesrine.

September 4: Dorian Gray (DVD) This story takes a long time to get going, and the mystery of Dorian Gray’s portrait is never explained, but there’s a real sense of time and place and the two main characters draw us in and prove that you don’t have to like who’s up there on the screen, you just have to get them, and who doesn’t get a guy who has such a good time that he misplaces his soul?   Exactly

September 8: (Limited opening) Catfish. Universal Pictures, Rogue Pictures.

September 10: The Town, a crime-drama film from Warner Bros. Pictures.

September 10: MESRINE: PUBLIC ENEMY #1 - One of History's Greatest Gangsters Jacques Mesrine was a French international gangster who was gunned down in 1979 by a police unit set-up solely to eliminate him, thus guaranteeing he would become one of history’s criminal icons and ensuring his robberies, murders and prison breaks would one day become legendary. Mesrine: Killer Instinct is the first one, Mesrine: Public Enemy #1 is the sequel.  Both 2.30 hrs, both brilliant films.

September 15: Never Let me Go title suggests that this is a boy meets girl movie, in the vein of Love Story, but sadly this is not the case.  It's actually about misery, suffering, hopelessness and death, and has very little to do with matters of the heart, unless you count the deadly surgical removals at the local hospital.  I bet you can't wait to get to the theatre, can you?

US: September 17, 2010

The Adjustment Bureau. Matt Damon is a man who glimpses the future Fate has planned for him and realizes he wants something else. To get it, he must pursue the only woman he's ever loved (EMILY BLUNT) across, under and through the streets of modern-day New York.Universal Pictures.

Catfish is a documentary about someone who misrepresents them self on Facebook and, after many megabytes of paraphernalia, comes face to face with the recipient of her electronic deceit.

The Roommate. Sony Pictures.

The Town refers to Charlestown, Boston, a place where fathers proudly mentor their sons to follow in their footsteps, which mostly lead to the local jail, but at least the sentiment is there. UK: 24 September 2010. See more international opening dates.

Warrior. Lionsgate.

US: September 19, 2010

Devil. A group of people trapped in a elevator realize that the devil is among them.

September 20: The Arbor is a documentary about a Yorkshire family torn apart because of a woman's refusal to take care of anyone, including herself.  It is steeped in sadness and the waste of it all but the renowned British stiff upper lip is in full play and it feels more like people doing their dirty washing in public than the tragedy that it is.

September 22: You Will Meet A Tall Dark Stranger The belief is that everyone has a book in them, which is true, but unfortunately it's not bound to be a good one. Another belief is that the more you write, the better you get, but this is Woody Allen's 40th offering and although he started with some gems, much trash has followed, many of which simply went through the motions of storytelling and showed Allen's distain for the audience and the people who finance his films.

US: September 24, 2010

The second Looney Toons cartoon short will be seen with "Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole," on September 24th; and the third with "Yogi Bear," on December 17, 2010. The announcement was made today by Dan Fellman, Warner Bros. Pictures President of Domestic Distribution

The Legends of the Guardians In 3D and IMAX. Guardians of Ga'Hoole, a fantasy adventure film from Warner Bros. Pictures.Every breed of owl, every color and feathered couture of the species makes an appearance in this film, but these stunning creations do little more than look good, making this into yet another good-guys-versus-bad-guys saga.

You Again, When a young woman realizes her brother is about to marry the girl who bullied her in high school, she sets out to expose the fiancée's true colors. Touchstone Pictures

Buried. Limited opening. Wide opening release on October 8, 2010. Lionsgate.

Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps is about a Wall Street trader who supports green energy, accepts big bonuses, lectures his mother on the perils of financial speculation and takes a job offer from the man who ratted on the father of his fiancée. See international movie release dates.

Fixer: The Taking of Ajmal Naqshbandi This documentary tells the tragic story of Ajmal Naqshbandi, a 24 year old bi-lingual Afghani, who worked as a Fixer for international journalists, facilitating, translating and gaining access so that they can write their stories.  We meet him, we spend time with him and discover what a trusting soul he is as he assures us that the Taliban would never harm a fellow Afghani.  He clearly clings to this belief when he is filmed in captivity and announces that he is safe because he is in the hands of fellow Muslims, in the hands of Islam.  But his worried eyes tell a different tale. DVD release.
