Groove into 2024 at the 10th Annual Prohibition NYE

Prohibition NYE with KCRW invite guests to ring in the New Year at the iconic Union Station in Downtown Los Angeles with CHROMEO (DJ Set) headlining. McCullough proudly presents the tenth annual Prohibition NYE, bringing the New Year’s Eve event back to Los Angeles’ Union Station to ring in 2024. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Thursday November 2.

The Roaring Twenties-inspired event invites guests to celebrate the new year with a full spectrum of entertainment, including a headlining DJ Set by the pioneering 80s tinged electrofunk sounds from CHROMEO, live jazz ensemble Lyndsay & the All-Nighters, performances from acclaimed burlesque troupe Concrete Entertainment, a premium open bar for all guests, and more. As the clock strikes midnight at one of LA’s most prized landmarks, attendees will mark the new year with the event’s signature 60-foot ball drop from the glamorous Art Deco ceilings of Union Station.

“We’re thrilled to have Chromeo leading the celebration of 2024 at Union Station,” said event producer John McCullough. “This is without a doubt our most anticipated New Year’s Eve performance to date. Get ready, Los Angeles!”

The event will run from 9 p.m. Dec. 31, until 2 a.m. Jan. 1. Tickets will be available on Eventbrite starting at 10 a.m Nov. 2. General Admission tickets for the premium event will be offered at $215. A limited number of VIP packages, featuring a private entrance, table service, and an exclusive stage-side, elevated viewing experience will be available for $3,000.

Saint Philip’s Rising Star concert series “Marimba & More”

At 7:00pm on Monday, November 6, the Saint Philip’s Rising Star concert series will begin its 2023-2024 season.

This Music Outreach Initiative provides performance opportunities for young musical stars in the Tucson area. The events feature an hour of special chamber music, followed by a reception with sweet treats.

Music lovers will appreciate “Marimba & More” but it is a special treat for young people to watch a peer perform as a featured artist. Share this email with a young person you would like to inspire!

The concert will begin at 7:00pm followed by dessert at 8:00pm. Seating is limited so reserve your place by calling Kay Couch at 520-299-2062.The suggested $20.00 donation supports the musician and the reception but—as this is an outreach program—no one will be turned away. All are invited to enjoy an evening with young musicians who play beautiful music, and celebrate with them afterward.The concert will be in the sanctuary and the reception will be in the Murphey Gallery.

Fall Artisans Market

The Tucson Museum of Art’s Fall Artisan Market features over 100 artists brining jewelry, pottery, glasswork and other artwork. Free event from November 17-19, from 10am-4pm at Tucson Museum of Art.

Tucson Celtic Festival and Scottish Highland Games

The 37th Tucson Celtic Festival and Scottish Highland Games features Scottish food, classic cars, and a kids play area. Celtic dance and music. Held at Rillito Racetrack, 4502 N. First Avenue on Nov. 3 from 5pm-9:30pm, Nov. 4 from 8am-9:30pm; and November 5 from 8am-5pm. General admission starts at $18, depending on the day of the event.

TENWEST Impact Festival

The 2023 TENWEST Impact Festival hosted by Startup Tucson features talks and afterparties with a large downtown street fest with over 100 vendors, live music, a fashion show and beer garden. The conference is held at Tucson Convention Center. Afterparties are at various locations around downtown Tucson. Cost: $60 for general admission conference pass. The street fest is free.

El Tour de Tucson 2023

The 40th annual El Tour de Tucson attracts bicycle riders from around the world to cycle the perimeter of Tucson. Expo and fiesta with vendors on November 16 (noon-9pm)-17. Natural History: Geology, Flora & Fauna of Desert Foothills

The Cave Creek Museum has created a new desert exhibit entitled Natural History: Geology, Flora & Fauna of Desert Foothills. The exhibit features spiders, insects, venomous creatures, animal skulls, desert plants, rocks and photos of the animals that grace the Arizona foothills. And, according to Evelyn Johnson, executive director for the museum, there are hands- on items for children to touch and learn.

“We also have a night sky and activity center so children to color pages and display their work on the wall,” says Johnson.

The 53-year-old museum’s mission is to preserve the artifacts of the prehistory, history, culture and legacy of the Cave Creek Mining District and the Cave Creek/Carefree foothills area through education, research and interpretive exhibits. National Poppy Month to benefit veterans

American Legion Post 34 celebrates National Poppy Month to benefit veterans. During the month of November, American Legion Post 34 will honor the fallen and support the future of local veterans, active-duty military personnel and their families and children with medical and financial needs during National Poppy Month.

According to American Legion Auxiliary Post34 Poppy chair Ronni Haverland, by wearing a poppy, citizens honor service members who died in the name of liberty, freedom and democracy, and supports veterans for generations to come.

“The red poppy came to symbolize the blood shed by those who fought and those who continue to fight for our country following World War I,” says Haverland. “It was popularized by the publication of the wartime poem ‘In Flanders Fields,’ written by Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, MD while serving on the front line in World War I. The poem honors soldiers killed in battle. In 1920, the poppy became the memorial flower of The American Legion.”

Through January 7: LightsUp! A Festival of Illumination stroll through Tucson Botanical Gardens with one million twinkling lights and dancing sculpture. 6 nights a week, Tuesday-Sunday, November 24-January 7, 6-9:30om. Cost: $20-50 for adults; $18-$5 for kids depending on the day.

December 1-16: Holiday Nights at Tohono Chul Park with music, home-baked cookies, shopping, holiday dining, stroll through thousands of twinkling lights throughout the Park, live music. December 2: Marana Holiday Festival and Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony is the biggest Christmas tree and light show in Southern Arizona. 30 food vendors, Santa photos, kid-friendly activities like crafts, inflatables and train rides. Held Dec. 2 from 3-10pm at Marana Municipal Complex, 11555 W. Civic Circle Drive. Free event. 40-foot Christmas tree lighting at 6pm.

December 2: 18th Tucson Tamal & Heritage Festival celebrating all things tamales. The Festival features Tamale contest, Live local entertainment, Food vendors, Food trucks, Artisan vendors, Farmers Market vendors. Casino del Sol, 5655 W. Valencia Road. 10am-5pm. Free event.

December 8-10: Fourth Avenue Winter Street Fair is held the first weekend of December all along 4th Avenue near Downtown between Ninth St. and University Blvd. Join tens of thousands of Tucsonans and visitors to see more than 350 arts & craft booths, food, entertainers & musicians from around the US, 2 stages & street performers. December 9-25: Winterhaven Festival of Lights is one of the longest running festivals of its kind in the country. The Festival of Lights celebrates its 70th holiday season in Tucson and is visited by hundreds of thousands of people from all over southern Arizona. December 16: Downtown Parade of Lights celebrates it 29th year. Parade goes through Armory Park this year. Last year, more than 30 floats and 1,000 people participated. Starts at 4pm with food trucks, vendors and music. Festival begins at 6:30pm.

The Tucson Arizona Boys Chorus Tree Lot will be open Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Hours of operation are Fridays and Saturdays from 10am to 9pm and Sundays 10am to 7pm. The lot features fresh cut trees at competitive prices. Trees available include Douglas Fir, Noble Fir, Grand Fir and Nordman Fir. Deliveries are available. The Chorus also sells fresh wreaths and garland.
