Give Blood in Honor of Moms in May

Give Blood in Honor of Moms in May; Transfusions Needed in 1 of 83 Deliveries

Southern Arizona Locations Announced: Casa Grande, Florence, Maricopa, Oro Valley & Tucson

As Mother’s Day approaches, nonprofit blood services provider Vitalant is urging all eligible donors to give blood this May. Every two seconds a patient needs blood, including 1 in every 83 baby deliveries. May is also Trauma Awareness Month. More donors are needed to ensure hospitals have enough blood ready to treat patients for all unpredictable emergencies, as well as scheduled treatments and elective surgeries. The need is critical for donations of all blood types, especially type O, because O-positive is the most common type. O-negative blood can help any patient, including premature babies. Platelets most often help patients who are battling cancer. To make a blood donation appointment, download the Vitalant app, visitvitalant.org or call 877-25-VITAL (877-258-4825) – Southern Arizona donation locations detailed below.

Kate Seppala is grateful for the donors whose more than 50 donations helped her after complications with the birth of her daughter, Agatha. She also needed an additional 14 units of blood during two surgeries that followed. “I realized it hit me recently when I was donating blood…without blood donors, it wouldn’t have mattered what my medical team did those days,” Seppala said. “All of their skills, knowledge, tools…if the blood wasn’t there ready to go, there wouldn’t have been anything they could do.”

As a special thank you, those who give blood with Vitalant through May 15 will receive a $10 Amazon.com Gift Card, and a total of $20 in Amazon.com Gift Cards for those who donate between May 9-May 15*. Plus, all donors in May are automatically entered into the “Vacay Giveaway” to win one of 3, $5,000 prepaid gift cards. All promotions and giveaways are redeemable by email.

TAYLOR SWIFT NOTCHES HIGHEST DEBUT EVER FOR RECORD STORE DAY VINYL

Taylor Swift has made history once again this week. The vinyl release of folklore: the long pond studio sessions debuts at #3 on the Billboard 200, logging the “The highest chart debut for a Record Store Day Vinyl ever.”

Right now, Taylor Swift occupies three spots in the Top 10 of the Billboard 200 (#3 folklore: the long pond studio sessions, #4 Midnights, #10 Lover), joining Whitney Houston as the only female soloist to achieve this milestone.

Moreover, folklore: the long pond studio sessions has emerged as “the first vinyl-only release to land in the Top 10” in the modern era. At the same time, it has earned her the title for “Most #1 Albums” on the Billboard Vinyl Albums Chart. The album also more than doubled the previous highest selling record store day sales record. The previous record was 35k units and folklore: the long pond studio sessions sold 75k.

The album chronicles the first time folklore was performed live during September 2020. Taylor, Aaron Dessner [The National], Jack Antonoff [Bleachers], and Justin Vernon [Bon Iver] played through the album in its entirety during the Long Pond Studio Sessions, and this vinyl presents and preserves this moment eternally. folkore notably stands out as her third LP to win “Album of the Year” at the GRAMMY® Awards.

Story of the Unknown Soldier

Cave Creek Museum to feature “Story of the Unknown Soldier”

Cave Creek Museum will feature the “Story of the Unknown Soldier” featuring Matthew Scott on Saturday, May 20, 2023 from 2-4 PM at the museum.

“Scott’s presentation will focus on the Selection and Burial of the First Unknown Soldier in Arlington Cemetery,” says Evelyn Johnson, the museum’s executive director. “It is a riveting program that highlights the emotion-wrenching process by which the first real Unknown Soldier from the battlefields of France was selected. The accolades from France and the world were heaped upon this anonymous soldier who represented the thousands of unnamed men who fell in battle, and the pomp and ceremony that accompanied the soldier’s reunification with his homeland and interment in a crypt at Arlington National Cemetery.”

Cave Creek Museum invited Scott back by popular demand.

Scott’s research includes the use of a report documented by his grandfather who was a clerk in the Cemetery Division of the Department of War, and who was directed to document the details of the ceremony in France and the burial in Arlington in November of 1921.

His stirring presentation in May 2022 was the catalyst for the Veterans Memory Garden, which will be sited on the Cave Creek Museum grounds as a show of appreciation for all who served and sacrificed in the name of our country. A groundbreaking was held on February 28and it is anticipated that the dedication will take place on December 7, 2023.

Please visit https://cavecreekmuseum.org/veterans-memory-garden-at-the-cave-creek-museum-1/ for more details about this project. You may also make a financial or “in-kind” contribution to support this project. Register by visiting cavecreekmuseum.org. The event is free for museum members and $10 for non-members.

The 52-year-old museum’s mission is to preserve the artifacts of the prehistory, history, culture and legacy of the Cave Creek Mining District and the Cave Creek/Carefree foothills area through education, research and interpretive exhibits. The Cave Creek Museum is located at 6140 E. Skyline Drive in Cave Creek, Ariz. Open October through May. The museum can be reached at 480.488.2764 or cavecreekmuseum.org. Where History Comes Alive.
