Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark is the story of a young girl, Sally, who moves to Rhode Island to live with her father (Guy Pearce) and his new girlfriend (Katie Holmes) in the 19th-century mansion they are restoring. Having stumbled upon the mansion’s hidden basement, Sally starts hearing voices calling out from the bolted ash pit, imploring her to open it. Sally obliges and unwittingly unleashes something so terrible, so unthinkable, that everyone’s life – hers most of all – is placed in immediate and grave danger. Film District. Higher Ground is a desperately tame, slow-paced story, cram-packed with religious fanatics who are so brain-washed they all sound the same. This leaves the audience with only the hero to identify with, but she is far too passive for far too long and the entire film drifts from scene to scene until we reach the final and undramatic end. International movie releases

Bad Teacher is Cameron Diaz who dazzles as the Bad Teacher in this otherwise barely entertaining piece that tries so hard to shock it suffers from exhaustion long before the final curtain falls.  None of the characters fully engage the audience and, with hardly a LOL moment, this film is destined for an early appearance on the DVD 'Coming Soon' list. Opens in Japan - 6 August 2011; Lithuania - 12 August 2011; Greece - 18 August 2011; Hungary - 18 August 2011; Singapore - 25 August 2011; Hong Kong - 1 September 2011; Italy - 2 September 2011; Malaysia - 20 October 2011.

Cars 2 is a children's film with a plot too complicated for many adults to understand and with so much explanatory dialogue it sometimes feels like a lecture.  There's absolutely no humor for anyone and much is made of a picture of an engine, the likes of which most kids under the age of 16 will never have seen.  To say the filmmakers are out of touch with their audience is an understatement. Opens in Denmark on 4 August 2011; Lithuania 5 August 2011; Norway 5 August 2011; Sweden 5 August 2011; Hong Kong 11 August 2011; Finland 12 August 2011; Turkey 19 August 2011; Malaysia 25 August 2011.

Midnight in Paris. This is yet another Woody Allen film with a lead character who is a writer struggling to write.  It's a lot better than anything he's produced for years, but there's none of the old genius in sight and no sign of the enigmatic characters he now seems unable to create. The Brits were the first to open their cheque books to Woody Allen, but now it appears his films can't even get released there. Open in Norway - 10 June 2011, Brazil - 17 June 2011, Denmark - 11 August 2011, Germany - 18 August 2011, Finland - 26 August 2011, Sweden - 2 September 2011, Italy - 2 December 2011.

Super 8 Joe's  mother has just died in an accident at work and his father, (Kyle Chandler) who is Deputy Sheriff of their Ohio town, is struggling to take care of his son on his own.   Joe (Joel Courtney) and five of his friends, one of whom is a girl called Alice, (Elle Fanning) are making a film about zombies and while they are shooting late one night they witness a train being derailed intentionally by a car.   After this people and pets in the town go missing, objects mysteriously move and the army descends on the town, intent on evacuating the inhabitants who demand answers from the battle-weary Deputy. Opens in France on 3 August 2011; Germany on 4 August 2011; Ireland on 5 August 2011; Mexico on 5 August 2011; UK on 5 August 2011; Netherlands on 11 August 2011; Brazil on 12 August 2011; Colombia on 12 August 2011; Paraguay on 12 August 201; Spain on 19 August 2011; Italy on 9 September 2011.

Life, Above All Chanda , 12, lives in an impoverished South African township with her mother, step-father and young siblings.  When tragedy strikes the family and her baby sister dies, her mother is bereft and her step-father nowhere to be found, so it is Chanda who goes to the funeral home to arrange her little sister's burial and it is Chanda who confronts her drunk step-father for stealing the money that was to pay for the baby's coffin.  The family tries to move on, but Chanda's mother becomes debilitated by an unnamed disease and as she takes to her bed, so Chanda slips into her shoes.  The young girl wraps her fragile family in her mighty arms and never falters from her self-appointed task as mother, father, counselor and nurse. Already playing worldwide. Opens in US on 15 July 2011 and Finland on 19 August 2011.

Zookeeper stars Kevin James and Rosario Dawson where Dr. Doolittle meets Cyrano de Bergerac in this comedy romance. Opens through September worldwide.

ANOTHER EARTH - En Route in a Tardis This film has an intriguing sci-fi premise about a duplicate earth but, unfortunately, it gets relegated to the realm of sub-plot and the focus is placed on a tedious romance that is a poor substitute for the extra-terrestrial adventure we could have enjoyed. USA: 22 July 2011. Finland: 23 September 2011; UK 7 October 2011. France: 12 October 2011. Russia: 13 October 2011. Germany: 1 December 2011.
