More Santa Barbara Film Festival Favorites: Five and Five

X-Men Origins: Wolverine and J. J. Abrams' Star Trek don't open until May 1st and May 8th, respectively, but Fandango, the nation's leading moviegoer destination, is already seeing brisk advance ticket sales for the two highly-anticipated summer movies. Fandango is reporting that dozens of opening weekend show times for the two films are sold out across the country from New York and Los Angeles to Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Sean PennMGM and the Farrelly brothers are closing in on their cast for "The Three Stooges."

The studio has set Sean Penn to play Larry, and negotiations are underway with Jim Carrey to play Curly, with the actor already making plans to gain 40 pounds to approximate the physical dimensions of Jerome "Curly" Howard.

At this year’s 2009 Santa Barbara International Film Festival, there were two live-action shorts in the Apple Box Shorts program, i.e. the family films, that we especially liked – and for which we were lucky enough to meet the filmmakers.  That is, of course, one of the pleasures of film festivals.
